IFL Recap: Arizona Rattlers vs Iowa Barnstormers

Drew Powell completed 7-of-14 passes for 68 yards and two touchdowns while Brady Roland had four receptions for 83 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Iowa Barnstormers (10-2) over the Arizona Rattlers (10-3), 41-38, on Saturday, June 2nd at the Wells Fargo Center in Des Moines, Iowa.

Jeff Ziemba completed 16-of-31 passes for 173 yards and three touchdowns while running back Darrell Monroe rushed the ball five times for 52 yards and a touchdown for the Rattlers.

At halftime, the Arizona Rattlers led the Iowa Barnstormers 31-27 behind two passing touchdowns and a rushing touchdown from Rattlers quarterback Jeff Ziemba.

Both the Rattlers and Barnstormers were pretty even when it came to first downs. The Rattlers gained 17 first downs in which 11 came during the passing game and three came during the run game. The Barnstormers gained 18 first downs in which five came during the passing game and 11 came during the run game. The Barnstormers just inked by the Rattlers when it came to total offense. The Barnstormers recorded 252 total yards offensively while having 148 yards come in the run game and 105 yards came during the passing game. The Rattlers racked up 236 total yards offensively while having 63 yards come during the run game and 173 yards come during the passing game.

IFL Recap: Iowa Barnstormers vs. Green Bay Blizzard

Drew Powell finished the game completing 14-of-24 passes for 154 yards along with three touchdowns and an interceptions while Ryan Balentine had six receptions for 71 yards to lead the Iowa Barnstormers (9-2) over the Green Bay Blizzard (2-9), 14-49, on Friday, May 25th at the Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines, Iowa.

Although the Green Bay Blizzard lost against the Barnstormers, quarterback Bryan Hicks completed 12-of-22 passes for 137 yards along with two touchdowns and two interceptions. B.J. Hill finished the game with three receptions for 46 yards while Chris Malott finished the game with four receptions for 31 yards and a touchdown and Tim Lukas finished with one reception for 16 yards and a touchdown for the Blizzard.

At halftime, the Barnstormers led the Blizzard, 15-0 as Drew Powell was responsible for a 13-yard passing touchdown and an 11-yard rushing touchdown.

The Barnstormers were dominant offensively gaining 22 first downs while the defense held the Blizzard offense to only gaining eight first downs. The Barnstormers also converted on nine of their 11 opportunities during third-down situations while the Blizzard only converted on three of eight opportunities. Total offense was another big difference maker between the two teams, as the Barnstormers record 291 yards of total offense while the Blizzard managed just 141 yards of offense.

IFL Recap: Iowa Barnstormers vs. Arizona Rattlers

Drew Powell went 19-of-21 for 191 yards and five touchdowns while Brady Roland had four receptions for 77 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Iowa Barnstormers (8-2) over the Arizona Rattlers (9-2), 69-68, on Sunday, May 20th at the Talking Stick Resort in Phoenix, Arizona.

Dezmon Epps was not only able to produce big numbers in the passing game but was also a key contributor to special teams as Epps is a return specialist for the Rattlers. Epps returned six kicks for 111 yards along with finished the game with eight receptions for 80 yards and a touchdown. Jeff Ziemba finished the game completing 22-of-27 passes for 237 yards and five touchdowns for the Rattlers.

The Arizona Rattlers lead at halftime 35-28 as Dylan Pebbles had two rushing touchdowns and Jeff Ziemba had two touchdowns to Anthony Amos.

Both teams were pretty even with team stats. The Iowa Barnstormers managed to gain 25 first downs while the Arizona Rattlers fell just shy and gained 23 first downs. Both teams accumulated big games offensively as the Barnstormers generated 330 yards of offense while the Rattlers managed to generate 315 yards. Penalties also affected both teams as the Barnstormers committed five penalties for 31 yards and the Rattlers committed six penalties for 37 yards.

IFL Recap: Iowa Barnstormers vs. Cedar Rapids Titans

Drew Powell ran the ball 14 times for 60 yards three touchdowns and Donovan Williams carried the ball 16 times for 70 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Iowa Barnstormers (7-2) over the Cedar Rapids Titans (1-9), 48-21, at Wells Fargo Arena on Friday, May 11th.

The Titans looked lost offensively as Jake Medlock led the team in both passing and rushing. Medlock completed 10 of his 19 passes for 67 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions but also ran the ball two times for 23 yards. Daniel Lindsey was yet again another dominant factor on special teams returning seven kicks for 140 yards.

At halftime, the Barnstormers lead the Titans 28-21, behind two touchdowns from Donovan Williams.

The Barnstormers took control of the game early on and were a dominant factor offensively racking up 19 first downs while the defense held the Titans to only seven. Handling the ball was rough for both teams offensively as they both lost two fumbles apiece. The Titans fell short on offense as they only gathered 127 yards with 63 passing yards and 64 rushing yards while the Barnstormers gained 267 total yards on offense with 142 passing yards and 125 rushing yards.

Game Recap: Iowa Barnstormers vs. Sioux Falls Storm

On Saturday May 5th, the Indoor Football league hosted three games and the first of those three was between the Iowa Barnstormers and the Sioux Falls Storm. The Barnstormers are currently 6-2 and sit in 2nd place while the Storm are 6-3 and sit in 3rd place. The game took place at the Premier Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
The Iowa Barnstormers took a commanding 14-0 lead in the 1st quarter with both scoring drives from Tyler Jamal, who ran the first touchdown for 3 yards and then ran the ball 11 yards for another touchdown about 4 minutes later.
End of 1st: Barnstormers 14 – Storm 7

Both teams combined for five touchdowns during the second quarter but the Barnstormers continued to find their stride offensively with another touchdown early in the second quarter. Drew Powell found his stride on the ground and ran the ball 3 yards into the end zone to give the Barnstormers a 21-0 lead. The Storm were able to find their momentum and disrupt the dominance seen by the Barnstormers early. Lorenzo Brown was able to run a yard into the end zone to cut the Barnstormers lead to 14. However, the Barnstormers were able to regain momentum rather quickly and were able to find the end zone yet again but this time it was a Drew Powell 44 yard pass to Brady Roland. Cody Barber went on to miss the extra point and would leave the Barnstormers with a 27-7 lead with 8:17 remaining before halftime. The Storm would be the team to score on the next three opportunities and ultimately bring the game within four by halftime. The Storm scored with a 1 yard run from both Lorenzo Brown and Lyle McComb. The Storm also got a safety which gave them two more points to an already dominant end of the second quarter.
Halftime: Barnstormers 27 – Storm 23

With 5:45 remaining in the 3rd quarter the Storm were the first team to find the end zone and with that touchdown were able to gain the lead over the Barnstormers. The Storm scored on a Dillon Turner 2 yard run but Miles Bergner would have his extra point attempt blocked by Dame Ndiaya. Drew Powell continued to find his dominance on the ground for the Barnstormers as he was able to scramble and run 27 yards for a touchdown but failed to convert on the 2 point try.
End of 3rd: Barnstormers 33 – Storm 29

The Storm opened up the final quarter with a scoring drive which last a little over 2 minutes. The Storm scored on a Lorenzo Brown 34 yard pass to Mike Tatum. The Barnstormers would find momentum briefly and score on the next two possessions. First, the Barnstormers scored on a 21 yard pass from Drew Powell to Ryan Balentine. The next drive came from a Drew Powell 8 yard pass to Sheldon Augustine. Cody Barber went on to have his extra point attempt blocked by Chris Martin. The next three scoring drives resulted with field goals for both teams. The Storm kicker Miles Bergner successfully made a 39 yard field goal and then made a 25 yard field goal. Cody Barber successfully made a field goal for the Barnstormers when he made a 17 yard attempt.

IFL Game Recap: Green Bay Blizzard vs. Iowa Barnstormers

On Saturday April 28th the Green Bay Blizzard played against the Iowa Barnstormers. The game took place at the Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines, Iowa. Currently the Green Bay Blizzard have a 0-7 record and sit in last place in the league while the Iowa Barnstormers have a record of 5-2 and currently sit in 3rd place overall in the league.
Both teams found there way into the end zone during the first quarter with the Blizzard getting on the board first with a Bryan Hicks 44 yard pass to Chris Malott. The Barnstormers responded on the next possession with a Grant Rohach 11 yard pass to Ryan Ballentine.
End of the 1st Quarter: Blizzard 7 – Barnstormers 7

The Barnstormers were able to find the end zone both offensively and defensively as Grant Rohach connected with Sheldon Augustine on a 6 yard pass and then Bryce Enyard returned an interception 32 yard for a pick six. The Blizzard were the last team to score before halftime as Darrius Sims returned an interception 15 yard for a pick six and successfully converted the 2pt attempt.
Halftime: Blizzard 15 – Barnstormers 20

The Barnstormers are the first team on the board to open up the second half as Sheldon Augustine found the end zone on a 2 yard run. The Blizzard responded quickly on the next possession as Jeremy Jones scored on a 2 yard run as well. Barnstormers closed the 3rd quarter as they scored on a Grant Rohach 19 yard pass to Brady Roland.
End of the 3rd Quarter: Blizzard 22 – Barnstormers 33

The Barnstormers score early in the 4th quarter as Grant Rohach connected with Ryan Ballentine on a 3 yard pass. Nearly 10 minutes later the Barnstormers found the end zone again as Grant Rohach found the end zone on a 3 yard run. The Blizzard scored one final time in the game as Jordan Endries successfully made a 51 yard field goal.

Game Recap: Nebraska Danger vs. Iowa Barnstormers

 

Saturday night the Indoor Football League (IFL) provided a very intriguing match-up between the Nebraska Danger and the Iowa Barnstormers. The game took place in Des Moines, Iowa at the Wells Fargo Center. The Danger find themselves currently at a 4-3 record and sit 4th overall in league standing while the Barnstormers find themselves with a 4-2 record and currently sit in the 3rd overall position.

The first half of the game looked very good as both teams played very well both offensively and defensively.

Starting off the 1st quarter the Barnstormers found themselves on Grant Rohach 47 yard pass to Brady Roland to give the Barnstormers the early 6-0 lead after a missed extra point by Cody Barber. But the Barnstormers quickly saw that lead vanish as on the Dangers next possession Jesse Scroggins found Gregory Dent on a 7 yard pass to take the lead by 1. The quarter wasn’t over just yet as both teams would carry the momentum and score one more time in the quarter. The Barnstormers would be the first team to score again Brady Roland found himself running the ball 3 yards for a touchdown but Cody Barber would miss his second extra point of the quarter. Again, on the Dangers next possession they would ultimately regain the lead and would carry it into the 2nd quarter after Jess Scroggins found Eric Thomas on a 4 yard pass to end the quarter.Image result for Nebraska Danger vs. Iowa Barnstormers

End of the 1st quarter: Danger 14 – Barnstormers 12

 

The biggest quarter scoring wise came before halftime and the Barnstormers were the first to find the end zone in the 2nd quarter. The Barnstormers were able to score off of a Cody Barber 26 yard kick to give the team a one point lead. Brad Hatfield had the same idea as he was able to make a 25 yard field goal to regain the lead for the Danger with 7:26 remaining before halftime. After the 5 minute mark the Barnstormer went on to score two more times as Cody Barber would make a 21 yard field goal but the Danger wouldn’t let this slow them down as they went on to find the end zone as Jesse Scroggins connected with Eric Thomas on a 31 yard pass. The Barnstormers were the final team to have possession before halftime and quarterback Grant Rohach saw an opening and ran the ball 8 yard into the end zone.

Only one scoring drive happened in the 3rd quarter and it would be from the Barnstormers kicker Cody Barber who made a 23 yard attempt.

End of the 3rd quarter: Danger 25 – Barnstormers 27

The Barnstormers offense was to much for the Danger’s defense in the second half of the game. The Barnstormers scored on two separate drives to end the game. First quarterback Grant Rohach found himself connecting with Jonathan Duarte on a 6 yard pass and then later found himself connecting with Ryan Balentine on an 18 yard pass with 22 seconds remaining.

Iowa Barnstormers vs. Nebraska Danger

On Friday March 30th a match-up took place between the Iowa Barnstormers and the Nebraska Danger. The game was held at the Hartland Events Center in Grand Island, Nebraska. Currently the Barnstormers are 3-2 and sit in 4th place in the league. The Danger are currently 4-1 and sit tied with the Rattlers for 1st place.

With just over 11 minutes remaining in the 1st quarter the Barnstormers would find there way into the end zone capitalizing on a 6 play, 45 yard drive and scored off a Drew Powell 6 yard pass to Ryan Balentine. The Danger however would win the quarter as they went on to score on two separate drives. The first touchdown came from a Korey Ringer 45 yard kickoff return but Brad Hatfield would have his extra point attempt blocked by the Barnstormers. The Danger would also score with 1:37 remaining in the 1st quarter with a Brad Hatfield 19 yard field goal.
End of 1st: Barnstormers 7 – Danger 9

The Danger would open up the 2nd quarter with a Brad Hatfield 38 yard field goal with 10:58 remaining before halftime. However, the Barnstormers would regain the lead with less than a minute remaining with a Drew Powell 14 yard pass to Jonathan Durate. But with :30 seconds remaining the Danger would complete a 3 play, 45 yard drive with a Jesse Scroggins 37 yard pass to Eric Thomas.
Halftime: Barnstormers 14 – Danger 20

The Danger would continue with the momentum as they scored on a Brad Hatfield 16 yard field goal and a Jesse Scroggins 20 yard pass to Eric Thomas as they increased their lead to 16 with 5 minutes left in the 3rd. The Barnstormers found the end zone with 4:02 remaining in the 3rd quarter as they scored on a Rocky Hayes 50 yard kickoff return but Cody Barber went on to miss the extra point. Eric Thomas went on to catch his 3rd receiving touchdown of the game with :59 seconds remaining from a 11 yard pass from Jesse Scroggins.
End of 3rd: Barnstormers 20 – Danger 36

With 13:39 remaining in the game the Barnstormers were able to trim the Danger lead to 10 as they scored on a Drew Powell 11 yard pass to Ryan Balentine. However, the Danger went on to score one finale time to put the game away with a Jesse Scroggins 41 yard pass to Kenzel Doe. Final scoring drive was by the Barnstormers as they scored on a Drew Powell 2 yard pass to Ryan Balentine.

Iowa Barnstormers vs. Cedar Rapids Titans Game Recap

The IFL match-up between the Iowa Barnstormers and Cedar Rapids Titans took place on March 24th. The game was played in Cedar Rapids, Iowa at the US Cellular Center. Currently the Barnstormers are 3-1 overall and are tied with the Arizona Rattlers for 1st place while the Cedar Rapids Titans are 1-4 and sit alone in 5th place.

The Titans would be the first team on the board early in the 1st quarter as they capped off a 2 play, 12 yard drive that would take off 47 seconds from the clock. The Titans scored of a Jake Medlock 1-yard run but the extra point attempt from Michael Georgetti would be missed with 14:06 remaining in the 1st. The Barnstormers would respond with 12:58 remaining as they scored from a Drew Powell 30 yard pass to Brady Roland as the Barnstormers took the lead. With less than 10 minutes remaining in the 1st quarter the Titans would finish the drive with a Michael Georgetti a 22 yard field goal to regain the lead early. Less than a minute later the Barnstormers would respond with a Drew Powell 13 yard pass to Brady Roland with 5:30 left in the 1st. However, the Titans would be the last team to find the end zone this quarter as they scored with a Tyler Thomas 4 yard run.
END OF 1ST: Barnstormers 14 – Titans 16

The Barnstormers would be the first team to score in the 2nd quarter with a Donovan Williams 1 yard run. Less than 10 minutes remain before halftime and the Barnstormers would go again this time from a Ryan Belantine 1 yard run. Cedar Rapids would respond on the following possession with 5:37 remaining before halftime with a Tyler Thomas 4 yard rush. The Barnstormers would continue with the momentum entering halftime as they would find the end zone again but this time off of a Donovan Williams 4 yard run with :35 seconds remaining. With less than :20 seconds remaining in the game the Titans were able to fight their way down field and finished the drive with a 2 yard rush as Jake Medlock fought his way into the end zone. However, the Barnstormers would be the final team to score before halftime with a 33 yard field goal from Cody Barber.
Halftime: Barnstormers 38 – Titans 30

The Barnstormers would take 3 minutes off the clock on their opening drive in the 3rd quarter. The Barnstormers marched 30 yards on 5 plays and finished with off with a Drew Powell 6 yard pass to Johnathan Duarte for a touchdown. With less than 6 minutes remaining in the 3rd quarter the Barnstormers would score again but this time it was on the ground as Drew Powell ran 17 yards for a touchdown. With under 5 minutes remaining in the 3rd the Titans would end their drive with a touchdown from Jake Medlock to Connor Hollenbeck for a 17 yard score. However, the Barnstormers would finish off the quarter with a Donovan Williams 4 yard rush.
END OF 3RD: Barnstormers 59 – Titans 38

The Titans would be the only team to find the end zone in the 4th quarter. With 11:47 remaining in the game as the Titans would end their 8 play, 36 yard drive with a Jake Medlock 2 yard pass to Connor Hollenbeck.

Iowa Barnstormers vs. Sioux Falls Storm Recap

Image result for sioux falls storm footballSaturdays indoor football league match-up consisted of the Sioux Falls Storm against the Iowa Barnstormers. The game took place in Des Moines, Iowa at the Wells Fargo Arena home of the Barnstormers. The Barnstormers and the Storm following that game are both 2-1 and are tied for 3rd place in the league behind the Arizona Rattlers and the Nebraska Danger.
Not a lot happened in the first quarter for either team besides when the Barnstormers scored a touchdown with 5:15 remaining in the quarter. The Barnstormers capitalized on a 5 play, 45-yard drive taking just over 4 minutes of the clock with a 4-yard rush from Drew Powell.

End of 1st: Storm 0 – Barnstormers 7

The second quarter had a whole different outcome as both teams combined for 5 scoring drives. Starting off the drive the capitalized on their 10 play, 44-yard drive with a Lorenzo Brown 7 yard pass to Brandynn Clark to tie the game with 14:30 remaining before halftime. The Storm would go to take the lead with 5:04 remaining in the quarter from a Lorenzo Brown 5 yard pass to Mike Tatum. In the final minute before halftime there was a combined three scoring drives, 2 by the Barnstormers and 1 by the Storm. The Barnstormers would cut the lead down to 4 with a Cody Barber 33 yard field goal with :48 seconds left before halftime. In just 24 seconds the Storm would respond with a Lorenzo Brown 11 yard run but the Barnstormers would be the last team to score prior to halftime with a 34 yard pass from Drew Powell to Brady Roland.

The Storm opened up the scoring in the 3rd quarter with a Miles Bergner 23 yard field goal bring their lead up to a touchdown over the Barnstormers. The Barnstormers would respond however in just over 5 minutes from a 10 play, 46 yard drive and capping it off with a Drew Powell 2 yard run to tie the game late in the quarter. Both teams would go on to score one more time in the 3rd quarter. The Storm would finish off a 5-play, 44 yard drive with a Marque Rodgers 16 yard bringing their lead back up to 7. However the Barnstormers would be the final team to score in the 3rd with a 3 yard run from Donovan Williams.

END OF 3RD: Storm 34 – Barnstormers 34
The 4th and final quarter of the game consisted of 5 scoring drives between the two teams. The Storm would take a 3-play, 36 yard drive and finish it off with a Mike Tatum 2 yard rush with 14:45 remaining in the game. The Barnstormers would respond with less than 10 minutes remaining in the game with a 20 yard field goal from Cody Barber. The Storm tried to seal the game with just under 5 minutes left with a Lorenzo Brown 7 yard pass to Harold Judd. The Barnstormers tried to keep the game close by scoring with a minute left in the game from a Drew Powell 7 yard run as they cut the lead down to 5. The Barnstormers defense couldn’t stop the Storm on the final drive as the Storm scored with 38 seconds remaining to seal the game with a Lorenzo Brown 14 yard pass to Brandynn Clark.
