IFL Game Recap: Iowa Barnstormers vs Cedar Rapids Titans

Barnstormers quarterback Drew Powell completed 5-of-6 passes for 71 yards and two touchdowns and running back Jamal Tyler had 12 rushing attempts for 79 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Iowa Barnstormers (11-3) over the Cedar Rapids Titans (3-11), 54-21, at the Wells Fargo Arena on Saturday, June 16th.

Titans quarterback Jake Medlock completed 24-of-33 passes for 230 yards along with an interception and two touchdowns. Wide receiver Marquel Wade had seven receptions for 104 yards in the Titans loss.

Drew Powell ran the ball eight times for 69 yards with three touchdowns for the Barnstormers and receiver Brady Roland had three receptions for 32 yards and two touchdowns in the Barnstormers win.

The Barnstormers gained 268 yards of total offense with 163 yards coming via the rush and 105 yards coming via the passing game. The Titans gained 261 yards of total offense with 224 yards coming via the passing game and 37 yards coming via the rush. However, the Titans committed 10 penalties for 71 yards while the Barnstormers committed only four penalties for 40 yards.

IFL Game Recap: Cedar Rapids Titans vs Green Bay Blizzard

Titans quarterback Jake Medlock completed 24-of-36 passes for 209 yards with an interception and four touchdowns while wide receiver Javon Bell caught 10 receptions for 107 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Cedar Rapids Titans (3-10) over the Green Bay Blizzard (2-10), 34-27, at the Resch Center on Saturday, June 9th.

Blizzard quarterback Brian Hicks completed 9-of-20 passes for 117 yards along with a touchdown and interception. Wide receiver Jereme Jones had four receptions for 51 yards and a touchdown.

Marquel Wade lead the team in rushing yards with 12 attempts for 42 yards and a touchdown for the Titans and Jordan Smith had five receptions for 47 yards and a touchdown.

The Cedar Rapids Titans accumulated 257 total yards behind the 201 yards gained in the passing game along with 56 yards gained via the rush. The Green Bay Blizzard had 184 yards of total offense with 113 yards coming via the rush and only 71 yards coming within the passing game. However, the Blizzard managed to lose two of their four committed fumbles throughout the game.

IFL Recap: Nebraska Danger vs Cedar Rapids Titans

Jake Medlock completed 22-of-26 passes for 249 yards and five touchdowns while wide receiver Javon Bell had five receptions for 84 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Cedar Rapids Titans (2-10) over the Nebraska Danger (4-9), 33-26, at the US Cellular Center on Saturday, June 2nd.

Nebraska Danger quarterback Gregory Hankerson Jr. completed 13-of-19 passes for 104 yards without a touchdown while special teams return man Gregory Dent Jr. returned five kicks for 121 yards.

Wide receivers Marquel Wade and Raphael Lawson-Gayle had monster games for the Titans offensively. Wade had seven receptions for 75 yards and two touchdowns and Lawson-Gayle had seven receptions for 68 yards and a touchdown.

The Titans racked up 269 yards of total offense as the passing game recorded 241 yards and the running game recorded 28 yards. The Danger racked up 175 yards as 110 yards coming from the passing game and 65 yards coming from the running game. However, fumbles hurt the Titans maintain momentum as they recorded four fumbles during the game but lost two of them.

IFL Recap: Sioux Falls Storm vs. Cedar Rapids Titans

Marques Rodgers rushed the ball 20 times for 111 yards and two touchdowns while Lorenzo Brown completed 8-of-13 passes for 70 yards with a touchdown and interception to lead the Sioux Falls Storm (8-3) over the Cedar Rapids Titans (1-10), 56-45, on Friday, May 18th at the US Cellular Center in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Although the Titans lost, quarterback Jake Medlock completed 12-of-26 passes for 149 yards and Marquel Wade had four receptions for 53 yards and a touchdown for the Titans.

At halftime, the Titans lead 23-18 behind two touchdowns from Jake Medlock who connecting with Marquel Wade and Javon Bell.

The Storm found their groove offensively and gained 22 first downs while the Titans were held to only 13 first downs. Third-down efficiency affects both teams during the game as the Storm successfully converted on 4 of 10 opportunities and the Titans were only able to convert on 1 of 7 opportunities but were successful on their only fourth down conversion. Penalties continued to take a toll on both teams during the game as the Storm committed 11 penalties for 93 yards and the Titans committed seven penalties for 70 yards. Overall, both teams respectfully found their groove on offense, for the Storm is was the run game as they accumulated 170 rushing yards and for the Titans, it was the passing game as they had 141 passing yards during the game.

IFL Recap: Iowa Barnstormers vs. Cedar Rapids Titans

Drew Powell ran the ball 14 times for 60 yards three touchdowns and Donovan Williams carried the ball 16 times for 70 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Iowa Barnstormers (7-2) over the Cedar Rapids Titans (1-9), 48-21, at Wells Fargo Arena on Friday, May 11th.

The Titans looked lost offensively as Jake Medlock led the team in both passing and rushing. Medlock completed 10 of his 19 passes for 67 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions but also ran the ball two times for 23 yards. Daniel Lindsey was yet again another dominant factor on special teams returning seven kicks for 140 yards.

At halftime, the Barnstormers lead the Titans 28-21, behind two touchdowns from Donovan Williams.

The Barnstormers took control of the game early on and were a dominant factor offensively racking up 19 first downs while the defense held the Titans to only seven. Handling the ball was rough for both teams offensively as they both lost two fumbles apiece. The Titans fell short on offense as they only gathered 127 yards with 63 passing yards and 64 rushing yards while the Barnstormers gained 267 total yards on offense with 142 passing yards and 125 rushing yards.

IFL Recap: Arizona Rattlers vs. Cedar Rapids Titans

Darrell Monroe rushed the ball 20 times for 107 yards and three touchdowns and Jeff Ziemba threw the ball 20 times completing 12 passes for 124 yards and three touchdowns as the Arizona Rattlers (8-1) defeated the Cedar Rapids Titans (1-8), 57-42, at the US Cellular Center located in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Although the Titans lost, Jake Medlock was dynamic on offense. Medlock completed 22 of his 33 passes for 220 yards and 4 touchdowns. Even though he threw two interceptions, Medlock looked very good under center for the Titans. Daniel Lindsey was also another dominating factor for the Titans on special teams. Lindsey returned the ball ten times for 194 yards.

At halftime, the Rattlers were leading 34-20, behind two rushing touchdowns by Darrell Monroe.

The Rattlers had 22 first down conversions and the defense was able to hold the Titans offense to only 18 first downs. Penalties hurt the Titans as they committed four penalties for 33 yards while the Rattlers only committed a penalty for one yard. Third down efficiency was also another key difference between the two teams as the Rattlers converted on 6 of 8 attempts (75%) and held the Titans to convert on 4 of 8 attempts (50%).

Game Recap: Cedar Rapids Titans vs. Sioux Falls Storm

On Saturday April 21st the Cedar Rapids Titans played against the Sioux Falls Storm. The game took place at the Premier Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Following the game the Cedar Rapids Titans have a record of 1-6 while the Sioux Falls Storm have a record of 5-2.

The Sioux Falls Storm found themselves scoring twice during the first 10 minutes of the game to take a commanding 14-0 lead. The first touchdown came from Lorenzo Brown who ran the ball 36 yards into the end zone. The second touchdown came from another Lorenzo Brown rush but this time it was a 4 yard run. The Cedar Rapids Titans were able to trim the lead down to 7 following a Ralph Lawson-Gayle 4 yard run into the end zone. However, the Storm were able to increase the lead back up to 14 with 2 yard run from Lyle McCombs.
End of the 1st quarter: Titans 7 – Storm 21

The second quarter was dominated by the Storm offense as they scored on four separate occasions before halftime. The first of many touchdowns this quarter came from a 1 yard run from Lorenzo Brown. But the Titans capitalized on their next drive as they tried to stop the Storm momentum. The Titans score on a Jake Medlock 4 yard pass to Javon Bell. But like I mentioned the Storm offense found the end zone a lot this quarter. Following the Titans touchdown the Storm went on to score three more times. The second touchdown of the quarter for the Storm came from a 30 yard pass from Lorenzo Brown who connected with Karim Jones. With less then 5 minutes remaining in the quarter the Storm went on to scored 10 points behind a 30 yard touchdown pass from Lorenzo Brown to Harold Judd and then a 24 yard field goal from Miles Bergner.
Halftime: Titans 13 – Storm 45

The Titans got on the board first in the third quarter with a Jake Medlock 25 yard pass to Ralph Lawson-Gayle. The Storm continued with the momentum and found the end zone on the following possession with a Lorenzo Brown 33 yard pass to Harold Judd. The 3rd quarter saw a lot of back to back scoring action between the two teams as both teams would go on to score one more time a piece to end the quarter. The Titans found the end zone again but this time it was a 12 yard pass from Jake Medlock to Connor Hollenbeck. The Storm capped of the 3rd quarter with a 36 yard field goal from Miles Bergner.
End of the 3rd: Titans 27 – Storm 55

The Titans found their groove in the 4th quarter but were to far behind to complete the comeback. The Titans found the end zone first in the 4th quarter with a Ralph Lawson-Gayle 11 yard run. However, the Storm scored on a 36 yard field goal by Miles Bergner but that didn’t stop the Titans momentum. Jake Medlock used his legs to find the end zone for the Titans as he scored on a 1 yard run. The Titans were down 17 with about five minutes remaining in the game. However, the Storm sealed the game with a Mike Tatum 6 yard run. The Titans ended the game with a Jake Medlock 2 yard pass to Connor Hollenbeck.

IFL Game Recap: Cedar Rapids Titans vs. Arizona Rattlers

On Saturday April 28th the Cedar Rapids Titans went up against the Arizona Rattlers. The game took place at Talking Stick Resort in Phoenix, Arizona. Currently the Titans are 1-7 and sit in 5th place overall while the Rattlers are 7-1 and sit in 1st place overall. This was a very exciting game as it came down to the wire. Both teams fought extremely hard throughout as the teams combines to score 167 points.

The Titans scored a very commanding lead during the 1st quarter and it started with Ralph Lawson-Gayle 44 yard run. Even though the Rattlers scored next the Titans went on to win the 1st quarter. The Rattlers scored as Dezmon Epps successful returned a 51 yard kickoff for a touchdown. Score is currently tied at 7 apiece. However, the Titans went on to score two final times to end the quarter. Jake Medlock successfully connected with Connor Hollenbeck on a 1 yard pass and then Zeke Arevalo made a 17 yard field goal to end the quarter.
End of the 1st Quarter: Titans 17 – Rattlers 7

The second quarter was packed with action as both teams combined for 6 scoring drives. The Rattlers cut the Titans lead to only 3 as Darrell Monroe found the end zone on a 1 yard run. The Titans responded almost immediately as Jake Medlock connect with Marquel Wade on a 39 yard touchdown pass. Darrell Monroe had himself a quarter as he successfully found the end zone on three separate occasions. Monroe found the end zone on both a 6 yard run and then a 3 yard run before halftime. Marquel Wade was able to do it both in the air and on the ground as he ran the ball 1 yard into the end zone. Jake Medlock was able to connect with Javon Bell on a 6 yard pass and then to end the quarter James Calhoun return a fumble 14 yards for a touchdown.
Halftime: Titans 42 – Rattlers 28

The Rattlers continued to dominate on the ground as Darrell Monroe found the end zone on four drives in the 3rd quarter. Kicking off the 3rd quarter, Monroe ran 6 yards to find the end zone the first time. About three minutes later the Titans found the end zone as Jake Medlock connected with Javon Bell on a 13 yard pass. Monroe continued to find the end zone but this time it was on a 2 yard run for the Rattlers. Now the Rattlers are within 10 points of the Titans. Monroe found the end zone yet another time this time on a 2 yard run which cut the Titan lead to 3. The Titans picked it back up and scored on two straight drives in which Ralph Lawson-Gayle ran the ball 4 yard into the end zone and then Jake Medlock connect with Marquel Wade on a 17 yard pass. Darrell Monroe ended the 3rd quarter with yet another successful scoring drive as he ran the ball 6 yards into the end zone.
End of the 3rd quarter: Titans 66 – Rattlers 56

The Titans opened up the 4th quarter with a Jordan Smith 8 yard kickoff return. However, Darrell Monroe continued to find his dominance on the ground and ran the 1 yard into the end zone. Cedar Rapids found a scoring groove as Zeke Arevalo made a 22 yard field goal attempt which bring the Titans to a 13 points lead with less than 10 minutes remaining. Darrell Monroe once again would find the end zone on a 1 yard run which cut the Titans lead to 6. Jake Medlock connected with Marquel Wade on a 34 yard touchdown pass as the Titans looked to seal the game. However, Darrell Monroe had other ideas as he successfully scored on a 2 yard run which brought the Rattlers within 5 points and then with less then 5 seconds remaining in the game Monroe found the end zone again with a 1 yard run.
Final: Titans 83 – Rattlers 84

This huge come from behind victory gave the Arizona Rattlers their 300th victory, which is more than any other franchise in Indoor Football history. They did so in front of 16,742 fans, their largest crowd since 2004. The Rattlers have now won their sixth straight game and have won 11 straight games at home.

Arizona Rattlers vs. Cedar Rapids Titans

On Saturday March 31st the Arizona Rattlers played against the Cedar Rapids Titans. The take took place at Talking Stick Resort in Phoenix, Arizona. The Arizona Rattlers are currently 4-1 and sit tied with the Nebraska Danger for 1st place in the league. The Cedar Rapids Titans are currently 1-5 and sit in 5th place overall in the league.

With less than 10 minutes remaining in the 1st quarter the Arizona Rattlers finished off a 6 play, 45 yard drive with a Jeff Ziemba 11 yard pass to Jared Harrington to take an early lead against the Titans. Less than a minute after the Rattlers scored the Titans would tie the game early with a Raphael Lawson-Gayle 5 yard run. However, the Rattlers would be the final team to score in the 1st quarter with a Jeff Ziemba 32 yard pass to Anthony Amos.
End of 1st: Titans 7 – Rattlers 14

The Rattlers scored with 12:38 remaining before halftime from a Jeff Ziemba 23 yard pass to Anthony Amos to increase the lead to 14. But the Titans would respond with a Jake Medlock 10 yard pass to Connor Hollenbeck. At the end of the 2nd quarter the Rattlers were able to find the end zone with no time remaining from a Jeff Ziemba 4 yard pass to Anthony Amos.
Halftime: Titans 13 – Rattlers 27

The Arizona Rattlers would be the only team to score during the 3rd quarter and it was on two separate occasions. The Rattlers would find the end zone with 10:38 remaining in the quarter as Jeff Ziemba was able to connect with Jamal Miles on a 6 yard touchdown pass. The second scoring drive came with 5:37 remaining in the quarter as Jeff Ziemba connected with Jamal Miles for the second time this quarter with am 8 yard touchdown pass.
End of 3rd: Titans 13 – Rattlers 41

Jake Medlock would get the Titans on the board during the 4th quarter as he rushed 1 yard for the touchdown. However, the Rattlers would finish out the game finding the end zone on 2 separate drives. With 8:20 remaining in the 4th quarter the Rattlers scored on a Jeff Ziemba 1 yard pass to Chris McCallister. Finishing the game with 3:53 remaining in the 4th, Dezmon Epps would find the end zone on a 4 yard run.

Iowa Barnstormers vs. Cedar Rapids Titans Game Recap

The IFL match-up between the Iowa Barnstormers and Cedar Rapids Titans took place on March 24th. The game was played in Cedar Rapids, Iowa at the US Cellular Center. Currently the Barnstormers are 3-1 overall and are tied with the Arizona Rattlers for 1st place while the Cedar Rapids Titans are 1-4 and sit alone in 5th place.

The Titans would be the first team on the board early in the 1st quarter as they capped off a 2 play, 12 yard drive that would take off 47 seconds from the clock. The Titans scored of a Jake Medlock 1-yard run but the extra point attempt from Michael Georgetti would be missed with 14:06 remaining in the 1st. The Barnstormers would respond with 12:58 remaining as they scored from a Drew Powell 30 yard pass to Brady Roland as the Barnstormers took the lead. With less than 10 minutes remaining in the 1st quarter the Titans would finish the drive with a Michael Georgetti a 22 yard field goal to regain the lead early. Less than a minute later the Barnstormers would respond with a Drew Powell 13 yard pass to Brady Roland with 5:30 left in the 1st. However, the Titans would be the last team to find the end zone this quarter as they scored with a Tyler Thomas 4 yard run.
END OF 1ST: Barnstormers 14 – Titans 16

The Barnstormers would be the first team to score in the 2nd quarter with a Donovan Williams 1 yard run. Less than 10 minutes remain before halftime and the Barnstormers would go again this time from a Ryan Belantine 1 yard run. Cedar Rapids would respond on the following possession with 5:37 remaining before halftime with a Tyler Thomas 4 yard rush. The Barnstormers would continue with the momentum entering halftime as they would find the end zone again but this time off of a Donovan Williams 4 yard run with :35 seconds remaining. With less than :20 seconds remaining in the game the Titans were able to fight their way down field and finished the drive with a 2 yard rush as Jake Medlock fought his way into the end zone. However, the Barnstormers would be the final team to score before halftime with a 33 yard field goal from Cody Barber.
Halftime: Barnstormers 38 – Titans 30

The Barnstormers would take 3 minutes off the clock on their opening drive in the 3rd quarter. The Barnstormers marched 30 yards on 5 plays and finished with off with a Drew Powell 6 yard pass to Johnathan Duarte for a touchdown. With less than 6 minutes remaining in the 3rd quarter the Barnstormers would score again but this time it was on the ground as Drew Powell ran 17 yards for a touchdown. With under 5 minutes remaining in the 3rd the Titans would end their drive with a touchdown from Jake Medlock to Connor Hollenbeck for a 17 yard score. However, the Barnstormers would finish off the quarter with a Donovan Williams 4 yard rush.
END OF 3RD: Barnstormers 59 – Titans 38

The Titans would be the only team to find the end zone in the 4th quarter. With 11:47 remaining in the game as the Titans would end their 8 play, 36 yard drive with a Jake Medlock 2 yard pass to Connor Hollenbeck.
