Total Diva Fallout (Season 8 Two-Part Premiere)

Total Divas is back and so is the Total Diva Fallout! This week is a special edition, as it is review of the two-week, two-part eighth season opener, “Good Girls Don’t Make History,” and “This Is My House.”

First off, with a new season comes new changes to the cast. Regarding departures, Alexa Bliss, Maryse, and Carmella are all off as series regulars. Maryse joined the regular cast beginning with Season Six, and she’s currently doing Miz and Mrs., while Alexa and Carmella were added during Season Seven. The only addition to the show came in the form of a return, as Paige returned as a full cast member. Paige joined the show in the beginning of Season Three, and was a regular until the end of Season Six.

Paige was the centerpiece of both parts of the opener, as Part 1 saw her attempting to deal with her neck injury, which she suffered in January. Neck injuries are immensely career threatening, and she was shown taking unorthodox measures hoping to become healed, all the while expressing heartbreak over the possibility that her career could be coming to an end. The remainder of Part 1 saw Paige feeling left out when the other girls were talking about WrestleMania and their plans, and Part 2 featured Paige talking with Daniel Bryan, who went through the same thing until he was cleared to return earlier this year. Paige actually participated as a guest commentator at WrestleMania, doing so during the women’s battle royal, and Part 2 ended with Paige’s announcement that she had to retire because of her injuries. I still remember how emotional it was that night, and the emotion returned when I saw it on Total Divas. Having to retire like that, and so young–she’s only 24.

Nia Jax took the secondary storyline in the two-parter, as she had a huge match at WrestleMania. Nia was in a storyline with her former friend Alexa Bliss, which had Bliss mocking Nia’s appearance and revealing that she uses her. Not only did Nia turn face as a result of this, but she ended up as Bliss’ challenger for the Raw Women’s Championship at the event. Both episodes had Nia expressing excitement and some nerves regarding what was undoubtedly the biggest match of her career, mainly due to the fact that she is one of few women to have a one-on-one title match at WrestleMania. She also expressed amazement while watching Ronda Rousey, as she made her WWE in-ring debut at WrestleMania, as she and Kurt Angle defeated Triple H and Stephanie McMahon. Nia went on to capture the Raw Women’s Championship at the event, and she was shown being congratulated by the rest of the cast on her hard-earned victory.

Of course, what would the show be without hilarity, and it was Natalya who delivered some in Part 1. Nattie was enlisted by Brie to help out with her Birdiebee company, and the Queen of Harts’ idea of help was to hand out flyers to fans that included a promise that they would actually meet the Bellas and hang out with them! Oh boy! Needless to say, Nattie’s borderline campaign promise put the Bellas (Brie especially) in a bind when several fans went up to them during a WM promotion and displayed the flyers. The twins were surprised by Nattie’s sales pitch, but it all worked out, as Nikki and Brie were able to fulfill that promise at the near end of Part 2.

That is the Total Diva Fallout for this week! Until next week!
