Tomahawks and Touchdowns: Week #2 Preview

The Kansas City Chiefs won their first game of the season 38-28 against the Los Angeles Chargers. It was the Chiefs ninth consecutive win against the Chargers. It was a big division victory for the Chiefs that could have a big impact on the playoff race at the end of the season. The Chiefs had a well-rounded performance by the offense, defense and special teams.

Wide receiver Tyreek Hill had big performance in the game. He had seven receptions for 169 yards and two receiving touchdowns. He also contributed on special teams with a punt return touchdown. Hill appears to be one of Patrick Mahomes favorite receiving targets. If Tyreek Hill continues to play well he could be one of the best receivers in the league again this season.

Safety Ron Parker played well after signing with the Chiefs earlier in the week. He had eight tackles and one interception against the Chargers. Parker could see a lot of playing time early in the season because of injuries to Eric Berry and Daniel Sorenson. Ron Parker has already made a big impact in his return to the Chiefs.

The Chiefs special teams made a big difference in the game. Hill had a first quarter punt return that put the Chiefs ahead early. Harrison Butker also had a strong performance with five extra points and one field goal from 46 yards. Special Teams accounted for 14 of the Chiefs 38 points.

The Chiefs will face the Pittsburgh Steelers on the road in week #2. The Steelers are 0-0-1 after tying with the Cleveland Browns in week #1. The Chiefs played the Steelers in Pittsburgh last year in week #6. The loss ended the Chiefs five game win streak to start the season. The Chiefs have not won a game in Pittsburgh since 1986 and have never won at Heinz Field.

The Chiefs defense will have a big test against the Steelers offense. The Steelers have one of the most talented offenses in the NFL. Last season Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown led the NFL with 1,533 receiving yards. The Steelers also have wide receiver JuJu Smith-Shuster who could make a big impact in the passing game. Star running back Le’Veon Bell is not expected to be back with the team in time to play the game. He will be replaced by second year running back James Conner. Last week Conner had 135 yards rushing and two rushing touchdowns. The Steelers should still have a potent rushing attack even without Bell. The game against the Steelers this week could be important at the end of the season for playoff seeding or the wild card race.
