College Football Preview

Hello fellow college football fans, welcome to my weekly college football season preview series. From now until the college football season starts, I will be previewing two college football teams a week. I plan to cover all major programs within all the conferences. I plan on looking at teams from the ACC to the SEC. I will give you my predictions for what these teams will do this year. Please feel free to interact and debate my conclusions, I enjoy interacting with all college football fans. So without further ado let us get this party started.

For my sixth installment, I decided to go with FBS Independents. A team that surprised me last season was the Army Black Knights. The Army Black Knights went 10-3 last season. It is always surprising to me when a team that only throws for a total of 361 yards for the season can get 10 wins. However, the Black Knights did rack up 4710 yards rushing with 1746 yards coming from quarterback Ahmad Bradshaw. They also had Darnell Woolfolk had 812 yards rushing, while Keill Walker also had 629 yards rushing. The rushing attack also accounted for 50 touchdowns as well. This rushing attack also eats up time of possession and limits the other team’s offensive reps. Looking at the Black Knights schedule it starts at Duke but their two biggest games are at Oklahoma on September 22nd and versus Navy on December 8th. If the Black Knights continue to have success with their rushing attack, I can easily see them going 9-3 this season. I see the Army versus Navy game again being a good close game. It is one of my favorite games of the season and the tradition that both those teams have make it a must see game for me.

The other team from the FBS Independents I have to pay attention to is of course the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. This historic program is one of those either teams fans love or hate. The Fighting Irish went 10-3 last season which included going 6-0 at home. Brandon Wimbush will be behind center who is a dual threat quarterback that threw for 1870 yards and ran for 803 yards. He accounted for 30 total touchdowns last year. I would not be surprised if they called on him to do more with the departure of Josh Adams who ran over 1430 yards. The Fighting Irish have a challenging schedule this season opening the season versus Michigan, at Wake Forest on September 22nd, versus Stanford on September 29th, at Virginia Tech on October 6th, versus Florida State on November 10thand closing out the season at USC. I can see the Fighting Irish going 8-4 navigating this tough schedule.

Let me know what you think and I will see you next week.

I agree with your predictions for Army. Not so sure about The Irish. I believe they’ll lose at least two games they’re heavily favored to win, adding to your “L” column prediction.
