Dawg Pound Scoop: Chargers Second Half Surge Spoils Gordon’s Return

In the highly anticipated return of Brown’s WR Josh Gordon, who hadn’t played in an NFL game until Sunday, the Chargers took full control in the second half and took home a host victory. It was another loss to add to the Brown’s schedule, and the Chargers continued to update their resume for a playoff spot.

The first quarter saw no scoring action, just a bunch of defensive standouts. The banged up Chargers defense and the struggling Browns defense both came to play, and held out for a scoreless first quarter.

The special teams took over for the Chargers in the second quarter when former Browns kicker Travis Coons hit three field goals. The Browns struck, though, when TE David Njoku reeled in a 28 yard pass from DeShone Kizer to make the score 9-7 at half.

A solid half for the Browns, with the game in the balance, proved to be wrong as the second half was completely controlled by the Chargers. The rest of the game saw a TD pass from Philip Rivers to Keenan Allen and another Travis Coons field goal in the third quarter, with the Browns only punching in a score late in the fourth. The Chargers ended up stealing the game off their third quarter run, with the Browns failing to capitalize in the second half.

This Browns season has been an utter embarrassment to the entire organization and the people surrounding it. Jimmy Haslem in the front office needs to make some moves in order to start making this team competitive. It will take a huge effort but will be necessary if he wants to stay employed.
