Tomahawks and Touchdowns: Bye Week Recap

Last week the Chiefs had their bye week for the 2017 season. It was one of the latest bye weeks in the NFL but fit well into their schedule. The bye week gave the team an opportunity to regroup after their loss to the Dallas Cowboys and prepare for the final portion of the season.

The Chiefs remain in first place in the AFC West after week #10. The Oakland Raiders also had a bye last week. They are in second in the division with a record of 4-5. The Los Angeles Chargers and Denver Broncos both lost their games last week. They are tied for last place in the division with a record of 3-6.

After the first 10 weeks of the regular season the Chiefs remain in the top five in some important statistics. Kareem Hunt has the second most rushing yards in the NFL at 800. He is only 40 yards behind the NFL rushing leader Le’Veon Bell. Alex Smith has the fifth most passing yards in the NFL at 2,444. He is also in the top five in completion percentage, yards per attempt, and quarterback rating. He has the fewest interceptions of any starting quarterback. The offense has been a big part of the Chiefs improvement this season. Kareem Hunt and Alex Smith are in the top five in many statistical categories because of the offensive success this season.

The Chiefs released defensive lineman Roy Miller on Monday after he was arrested on domestic battery over the weekend. Miller played in seven games and had six combined tackles. He signed with the Chiefs this off-season after spending the first eight seasons of his career with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Jacksonville Jaguars. The Chiefs signed veteran defensive lineman Cam Thomas to fill Millers roster spot. The decision to cut Roy Miller should not have a big effect on the Chiefs defense.

In week #11 the Chiefs will face the 1-8 New York Giants. The Giants only win this season was against the Denver Broncos. Injuries have been a problem for the Giants this season. Their top three receivers are on the IR with season ending injuries and many other starters have missed games. The Chiefs should be able to get back on track in their match-up with the New York Giants. They are expected to have a good week against a depleted Giants roster.
