The Burgundy Breakdown

Welcome to the Burgundy Breakdown, which recaps the latest week in action featuring the Colorado Avalanche!

It was a short week for the Avs, as they spent most of it traveling to Stockholm, Sweden for back-to-back games against the Ottawa Senators as part of the NHL Global Series. It also marked Matt Duchene’s first two games against his longtime former team; Duchene was traded to the Senators on November 5 as part of a three team deal that also included the Nashville Predators. Duchene was shown with a different number–95–as he took the ice for the Sens for the first time this season.

The first game took place this past Friday, and it was a back and forth game that ended tied at 3 after 60 minutes. In OT, Mark Stone scored early in the extra period to give the Senators the victory, with his OT winner being one of two goals he scored in the game. Saturday’s game was also back and forth, with Blake Comeau striking first for the Avalanche with a shorthanded goal. In the end, the Avs came up short again by the same score, 4-3, but this time, no overtime was needed.

Still, not a bad start to November for the Avalanche; 2-2-1 so far this month, but three straight losses following the two wins. The Avalanche are 8-7-1 this season, and their new week begins on Thursday with a home game against Alex Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals. Following that game, the Avs will go on the road for back-to-back games against the Predators (on Saturday) and Red Wings (on Sunday).

That’s the Burgundy Breakdown for this week! Until next week!
