Game Balls:

Coming off a bye week, there aren’t many game balls to give…except for maybe health? Seems like everyone (knock on wood) stayed healthy.

Anthony Barr: Simply for the fact that he has all-but-ended Aaron Rodgers season. I hate injuries and think it is terrible for the NFL. I love watching Aaron Rodgers sling the ball. But the fact that Rodgers doesn’t have to embarrass the Bears this week is a nice thing. Get well soon Aaron.

New Orleans Medical Staff/Chicago Bears Medical Staff: From what it sounds like, they had to be very precise and professional about taking care of Zach Miller’s leg. And they did just that. Shout out to all of the staff that helped pretty much save Miller’s leg. Miller is now back in Chicago and working towards a full recovery, with a long road ahead. Without a quick diagnosis and a call to action, Miller could have lost his leg. A game ball does not do just to all who were involved, but they did exactly what they had to do – their job.

State of the Bears:

Say what you want about John Fox and the Bears. This is a must win for John Fox and his staff. The Bears are coming off of a bye week. The Packers are traveling on a short week. This is a division rival and a team that is more banged up than most teams in the NFL. This is one of those games that Ryan Pace and the Bears will look back on whenever the season is over when deciding to keep Fox and his staff. This is a division rival, and your biggest rival. They are reeling and the Bears are looking to turn the corner.

The Packers are starting another Brett at quarterback, and he has been far from Favre-like. Brett Hundley was plugged in for the absence of Aaron Rodgers for the past couple of weeks. He has looked very uncomfortable at times but has shown some flashes. The Bears are at home, fresh off of a bye week that was much needed after a disappointing loss to the Saints. It seems like forever-ago the Bears played that game.

It’s a shame the Bears will be without Zach Miller, but glad to hear he has made his way back to Chicago and his leg was saved. Shout out to the New Orleans medical staff and paramedics who took care of him. Miller

Quick Hits:

  • The Packers are coming in very banged up. If the Packers have any hope of making the playoffs this year, they need this one. If they lose, they are pretty much done, and so will be Aaron Rodgers (officially) for the season.
  • The Packers lost veteran tackle Bryan Bulaga for the remainder of the season last week. Seems like that guy is always banged up.
  • Without Rodgers, the Packers are a totally different team. Jordy Nelson was held under 40 yards in back to back games for the first time since 2010! Granted he missed the entire 2015 season, this is still unbelievable.
  • Watching the Packers the last couple of games without Rodgers just shows you how much a franchise QB is worth – and Rodgers is worth every penny. He is the MVP of that team, and probably the NFL.
  • The Bears need this one big time – not only to improve as a team, but for the organization and front office to save some face.
  • The Packers are going to try and help Brett Hundley by leaning on the running game. If the Packers can establish the run game early against the Bears, the Packers will put Hundley in a much more comfortable position.
  • The Bears have to get the pass game going somehow. If I were the Packers defensive coordinator – Dom Capers – I would load the box and play a lot of man coverage. On pass situations, I would hide coverage and bring a lot of pressure.
  • If I’m the Packers, I would make Trubisky show me he can play. I would put the game in his hands and not allow him to be a game manager, as he has shown to be.
  • The Bears better be ready to unleash Trubisky. He has shown a lot of potential, but has been hit or miss with consistency. Furthermore, he has yet to have the big game everyone is waiting for. In his defense, his weapons may be the worst in the league to throw to (not including the RBs).

I think the Bears establish a running game against a banged up Bears team. I think the Bears come out, ready to go, fresh off of a bye week. The Packers are traveling, on a short week. I think it’ll be ugly and very defensive (or non-offensive).

Bears 20, Packers 17

As always,

Bear Down
