Women’s Wrestling Wrap-Up

Welcome to the latest edition of the Women’s Wrestling Wrap-Up, which details everything in women’s wrestling from the past week, beginning with Monday’s Raw and ending with Bound For Glory.

Monday saw the return of Nia Jax after her hiatus, and she stepped in for Alicia Fox and faced Bayley, winning the match and earning a spot on the Raw Women’s Team for Survivor Series. Asuka was in action, defeating a local talent, and the main event saw Alexa Bliss successfully defend the Raw Women’s Championship against Mickie James, keeping the Champion vs Champion match intact. On SmackDown, blue brand captain Becky Lynch gave an inspiring speech to the rest of the women, only for Natalya to interrupt and suggest that the team could have a weak link.Image result for nia jax vs bayley

Wednesday’s NXT kicked off with Nikki Cross defeating Taynara Conti in a grudge match that was weeks in the making, while that same night featured the return of Total Divas, with the confrontation between Nia Jax and Maryse being the main topic of discussion. The following evening’s Impact featured Rosemary and Allie defeating Sienna and KC Spinelli in a tag match that took place in Windsor, Ontario, and at the Impact Zone, Gail Kim addressed the fans one last time, as she was days away from her final appearance at Bound For Glory.

And speaking of the event, Ottawa was already celebrating acquiring Matt Duchene in a three team trade, and they hosted Bound For Glory hours later. We saw two Knockouts already, the first one being Laurel Van Ness, who continued her pursuit for a companion during an impromptu match between Ishimori and Tyson Dux. She made a bigger impact later on, as the Monster’s Ball Match between Grado and Abyss featured Laurel’s long expected heel turn, as she went after Grado as payback for being dumped by him. However, Rosemary (whose match against Taya was cancelled) appeared and subdued the evil Laurel with her mist. Regarding the Knockouts Championship, Gail Kim defeated Sienna and Allie to win her record setting seventh and last title, fulfilling her goal to retire on top.

Nikki Bella: the next SmackDown GM?

This week saw Nikki Bella eliminated from Dancing With the Stars as part of a surprise double elimination, as Vanessa Lachey was also ousted. Despite this, Nikki still made some headlines, as a rumor floated that she wants to become the next General Manager of SmackDown. The position is currently held by Nikki’s brother-in-law, Daniel Bryan, and has been since the brand split returned last summer. As shown on the Total Divas season premiere, Nikki actually suggested to Bryan that she could fill in for him in the GM role during his paternity leave, but that didn’t pass due to the timing. Even so, the former two-time Divas Champion has continued to express interest in becoming SD GM, and Nikki herself stated that WWE did like the idea.

Nikki has also expressed desire to become a villainess once again, as she has said many times in different forums that she enjoyed being a heel. I do love the idea of Nikki being GM; other than Stephanie McMahon, we WWE fans haven’t really seen a lot of female on-screen authority figures, and Nikki being GM of SD would give us that, and would give Nikki a lot of TV time. I would really love it if Nikki did act as a villainous GM, most likely using her power to give Brie (who is also planning on returning) a free ride to the title while also holding back certain babyface women. Also, the evil Nikki could clash and mess with Shane McMahon in a power struggle; it would be so epic!

A new week begins with Raw, as the countdown to Survivor Series continues on Monday’s program, as well as SmackDown and even NXT. This Thursday is the fallout from Bound For Glory! Until next week!
