Tomahawks and Touchdowns: Week #8 Recap

The Chiefs got back on track last week with a 29-19 win over division rival Denver Broncos. It was the Chiefs second Monday night game this season. The Chiefs are 4-1 in primetime games this season. The win last week moved the Chiefs record to 6-2.


The victory against the Broncos helped the Chiefs in the AFC West standings. The Chiefs remain in first place. The Broncos are in second place with a record of 3-4. The Los Angeles Chargers and Oakland Raiders are at the bottom of the division with records of 3-5. The Chiefs are in a great position in the division at the midway point in the season.

Tamba Hali was activated from the PUP list but it is unknown when he will be ready to play. Hali missed the first half of the season with a knee injury. Hali is a big part of the Chiefs defense and it could get a boost when he returns. Last season he had 34 combined tackles and 3.5 sacks. The Chiefs defense has been strong this season but could be even better when Tamba Hali returns.


In the game last week the Chiefs caused five turnovers, three interceptions and two fumbles. Marcus Peters returned a Jamaal Charles fumble for a touchdown in the first quarter. The Chiefs have a turnover differential of +10, second highest in the NFL behind the Buffalo Bills at +14.


The Chiefs had two turnovers last week against the Broncos. Their only other turnover of the season was a fumble by Kareem Hunt on the first snap of the season. Alex Smith still has not thrown an interception this season. The Chiefs only have one interception, which was thrown by Tyreek Hill. The Chiefs lack of turnovers have been a big reason for their success so far this season.

This week the Chiefs will face the Dallas Cowboys. The Cowboys are 4-3 this season. They are second in the NFC East behind the Philadelphia Eagles. The Cowboys will miss Ezekiel Elliott this week because his six-game suspension was reinstated on Monday. Elliott has 690 rushing yards and 6 rushing touchdowns. The loss of Elliott will have a big impact on the Cowboys offense. The Cowboys are a playoff contender this season and it will be another important game for the Chiefs. A win this week would help the Chiefs in the standings and prepare them for the playoffs.
