Cross-Court Cavs: Ups and Downs Continue

After a solid opening week, with the team’s identity still yet to be found, the Cavs slightly took it up a notch this week.  Two games on the road and two at home put four total tests on their hands.

A refreshed Bulls team came into town on Tuesday, and the Cavs took care of business. LeBron James led the way with 22 points, as the young and upcoming Bulls looked completely outmatched against the Eastern Conference powerhouse. Lauri Markkanen continued to impress, dropping in 19 points and adding to a solid rookie campaign, but the Cavs still snuck out with a 119-122 victory.

The next two games came on the road for the Cavs, starting with a trip to Brooklyn and the Barclays Center. The surprising Nets came to play, and dominated the Cavs from the start. Spencer Dinwiddie poured in 22 points to lead the way as the New Yorkers controlled the entire game and never looked back, taking a 112-107 victory.

After a disappointing trip to the Big Apple, the Cavs headed down to New Orleans to take on the reloaded Pelicans. The trio of Anthony Davis, Demarcus Cousins, and Jrue Holiday was in full effect, as they dropped 30, 29, and 29 points, respectively. The Cavs looked sluggish from the start, and were never able to recover, suffering their second straight loss with a 123-101 defeat.

And finally, in hopes to finish out the week strong, the Cavs headed back home to welcome in the New York Knicks on Sunday afternoon. Tim Hardaway Jr. and Kristaps Porzingis led the scoring for the Knicks, each hitting the 30 mark, as the visitor’s rolled to an easy 114-95 rout of the Cavs.

After a solid start to the week, the Cavs finished terribly. The energy level for all 48 minutes is clearly not there, and the defense is struggling. LeBron and the other veterans on the team need to step up to make a change, as the Cavs are clearly headed in the wrong direction as of now.
