Dawg Pound Scoop: Another One for the Loss Column

Another slow start, another loss. Going on the road to Houston this week resulted in another rough outing for the Browns, as the Texans smacked the winless team, handing them their 6th loss of the year.

The two teams got the Sunday afternoon contest started with two field goals, one by each side. Texans kicker Ka’imi Fairbairn knocked in a 40 yarder, and then Browns kicker Zane Gonzalez one upped him with a 41 yarder.

The Texans opened up the game when rookie QB DeShaun Watson connected with speedster Will Fuller on a 39 yard TD pass at the end of the first quarter, making the score 10-3.

To open up the second quarter, Texans CB Johnathan Joseph returned a Kevin Hogan pass 82 yards to put them up by two scores.

They decided to have a little more fun when former Ohio State QB turned WR Braxton Miller caught a DeShaun Watson 1 yard pass for a TD, and TE Ryan Griffin added on the 2 point conversion, making it 24-3.

After halftime, with a large deficit awaiting them, the Browns screwed up again. Kevin Hogan dropped back and committed a safety, adding another 2 free points to the Texans total.

DeAndre Hopkins put the Texans in the 30s when he hauled in a 3 yard TD pass from Watson. A busted coverage left the #1 wideout wide open for the score.

With the score at 33-3, the Browns tried to not give up, but there was no hope. Veteran CB Jason McCourty returned a Watson pass 56 yards for a TD, and Seth DeValve also reeled in a 3 yard Hogan pass in the late 4th, making the score 33-17, and that is all this game would have to offer.

This game is just another example of how the Browns start slow and it ends up costing them. The team is now 0-6 and is showing no signs of improvement.  There isn’t much else to be said other than a change needs to be made going forward.
