Ring The Upset Alert Alarm

Welcome to Ivan (J.D.) Geter’s weekly “Ring the Upset Alert Alarm” upset picks series. Every week I sit down and look for potential upset picks at the NFL and College Football level. Each week I will put three NFL teams and two College Football teams on upset alert. I hope you enjoy this series, and just to let you know last week I did have USC on upset alert.

NFL

“Ring the Alarm” I am going out on a big limb and putting the New England Patriots on upset alert. Lets be real every time you pick against the New England Patriots it’s an upset alert. Even though they have possibly the great quarterback to ever play the game in Tom Brady, they are struggling on defense big time compared to last year. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are averaging 23.6 points per game and are playing at home on Thursday night. This is a perfect game for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to make a statement in the process of taking that next step for a young team. Having said that I got the Tampa Bay Buccaneers winning 31-27.

“Ring the Alarm” I am putting the Philadelphia Eagles on upset alert against the Arizona Cardinals. The Philadelphia Eagles last two games could have went either way beating the L.A. Chargers 26-24 and the New York Giants 27-24. In both of those games they did just enough to win. Well the same can be said about the Arizona Cardinals last two wins but that overtime walk off touchdown to Larry Fitzgerald, I believe will be the spark for that team. I see it motivating the Cardinals for the rest of the season. I see the Cardinals winning a close game on the road 24-21.

“Ring the Alarm” I am putting the Kansas City Chiefs on upset alert for Sunday Night Football in Houston. Deshaun Watson is showing why he should have been the starter going into the season. He has all the tools to be successful but most importantly, he is not overwhelmed by the moment from his experiences at Clemson. The Kansas City Chiefs have looked good winning their first 4 games but I believe that the Houston Texans front four will give Alex Smith trouble. I can see both quarterbacks running out of a collapsing pocket all night. Even though Kanas City has a good running game, I can see Alex Smith making a key turnover in the 4th quarter. I got the Houston Texans winning an exciting game 34-31.

College Football

“Ring the Alarm” I am putting the Miami Hurricanes on upset alert playing against their rival Florida State. Things could not have gone more wrong to the start of the season for Florida State, not only losing the big match up against Alabama, but their star quarterback Deondre Francois has a season ending injury. Not to mention they had to deal with the devastation of hurricane Irma. So of course the team would be thrown off after these events, but they got their first win on the road against Wake Forest. I see Florida State getting up for this game against their rival and playing good defense. As long as Florida State can run the ball and limit turnovers, I see another exciting game between these two teams. I see Jacques Patrick getting over twenty touches for 150 yards and Florida State pulls the upset 28-24.

“Ring the Alarm” I am putting Louisville on upset alert for their Thursday night match-up with North Carolina State. I know Lamar Jackson is an outstanding player but the rest of his team is really average and the North Carolina State offense will be able to put up points averaging 34.8 points per game. I can see North Carolina State tying to contain Lamar Jackson because they will not shut him down. I see them limiting the big plays on defense and scoring often on offense. I got North Carolyn State winning 37-27 giving Louisville their second lose of the season.

I hope you have enjoyed my section and don’t forget when you see upset alert come across your television set, shout out “Ring the Alarm!”

Great column I agree with the Houston vs Kansas City upset but I don’t see Florida state having enough offensive weapons to overcome Miami
