Top Ten Thursday; NFL Football

As week 5 of the NFL season is approaching here are the Top 10 teams after week 4.

10. Houston Texans (Previous Rank N/A) Record: 3-1
Week 4: Beat the Tennessee Titans 57-14
Week 5: Hosts Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday Night 8:30PM ET
Deshaun Watson looks to be the quarterback of the future for the Texans and even with J.J. Watt not recording any sacks the defense has still been impressive through the first 4 weeks.

9. Philadelphia Eagles (Previous Rank N/A) Record: 3-1
Week 4: Defeated the Los Angeles Chargers 26-21
Week 5: Hosts Arizona Cardinals on Sunday 1:00PM ET
Philadelphia needs to tighten up their defense in the 4th quarter since they have allowed the 2nd most points in the 4th and have won the last 2 games by a combined 5 points. Offensively the team is solid behind Carson Wentz who has 6 touchdowns with only 2 interceptions.

8. Seattle Seahawks (Previous Rank N/A) Record 2-2
Week 4: Defeated the Indianapolis Colts 46-18
Week 5: Visit Los Angeles Rams on Sunday 4:05PM ET
The Seahawks have held opponents to less than 20 points or fewer three times this season. When they hold their opponents to 20 points or less and Russell Wilson has been quarterback, the Seahawks are 45-7-1.

7. Detroit Lions (Previous Rank: 10) Record 3-1
Week 4: Defeated the Minnesota Vikings 14-7
Week 5: Host Carolina Panthers on Sunday 1:00PM ET
The defense has been impressive thus far as they are tied for the league lead with 11 takeaways, which has led to 47 points off those turnovers. Detroit only scored 28 points off of 14 takeaways last season.

6. Denver Broncos (Previous Rank: 9) Record 3-1
Week 4: Defeated the Oakland Raiders 16-10
Week 5: Bye Week
Denver’s rushing defense is allowing 50.8 rushing yards per game through the first four weeks. Defense helped guide the Broncos to a super bowl before and at this rate, it may be able to do it again.

5. New England Patriots (Previous Rank: 3) Record 2-2
Week 4: Lost 33-30 to the Carolina Panthers
Week 5: Visit the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Thursday night 8:00PM ET
The Patriots need to fix their defense. Case in point; they have allowed more passing touchdowns and more yards per attempt than Brady has thrown this season.

4. Green Bay Packers (Previous Rank: 4) Record 3-1
Week 4: Defeated the Chicago Bears Thursday Night 35-14
Week 5: Visit the Dallas Cowboys Sunday 4:25PM ET
The Packers have faced many injuries defensively but that hasn’t stopped them from generating pressure on 31% of dropbacks which is the 4th highest rate in the NFL.

3. Atlanta Falcons (Previous Rank: 2) Record 3-1
Week 4: Lost to the Buffalo Bills 23-17
Week 5: Bye Week
The offense has turned the ball over 6 times within the last 2 games while the defense hasn’t been able to generate one. Julio Jones and Mohamed Sanu both faced injuries but because of the Bye Week the offense should be churning again sooner rather than later.

2. Pittsburgh Steelers (Previous Rank: 5) Record 3-1
Week 4: Defeated the Baltimore Ravens 26-9
Week 5: Host Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday 1:00PM ET
The Steelers defense has held opposing teams to 14.8 points per game this season which is the 2nd fewest in the NFL.

1. Kansas City Chiefs (Previous Rank: 1) Record 4-0
Week 4: Defeated the Washington Redskins Monday Night 29-20
Week 5: Visit Houston Texans Sunday night 8:30 PM ET
The Chiefs have allowed opposing quarterbacks to complete a league best 51% of their pass attempts. Yet, even with Kirk Cousins completing 58% of his passes, the defense still held up on the journey to a 4-0 start.
