The Roar: Lions are the Doormat to the NFL; Here’s Why:

Ringless since 1957 (pre-Super Bowl era), last playoff victory was in 1991, last home playoff game was in 1994, zero NFC North titles, the horrific 0-16 season and to be honest, we could go all day.

We could also go all day with how many times the Lions have been jobbbed by the league. The Calvin Johnson complete the process rule, the mess of a playoff game in Dallas, illegal batting in Seattle, the calls and no calls leading up to the hail mary. Not to mention, last Sunday’s debacle.

The 10-second rule is what it is, but it’s flawed. No game should end due to an automatic review being enforced. Aside from that, the touchdown being reversed was an absolute crapshoot. If a play is inconclusive, the original call on the field stands 99.9% of the time, except for Golden Tate’s should have been touchdown. Upon further review, he was ruled down shy of the goal line. It was close, but seemed inconclusive.

Detroit radio anchor, Mike Valenti of the Mike Valenti Show on 97.1 the Ticket is one of the best in the business. His voice rides the radio waves throughout an outstanding sports city and state, but isn’t afraid to tell the truth. He’s arguably one of the biggest Lions’ critics and has been for a long time.

Earlier this week, on Monday’s show, he wasn’t.

He sided with the Lions as he picked them to win, thought they played well enough to win and that they had a win taken away. Valenti also mentioned that someone needs to stand up for the team. He knocked it out of the park.

Head coach Jim Caldwell is an individual that is unruffled. That’s all fine and dandy because every team needs someone at the helm that doesn’t lose their composure, but there comes a point in time where you almost have to lose it.

For Caldwell, it wasn’t this time, but if the Lions get jobbed again, he should probably lay into the league. If lucky enough, the league may finally get the hint that Detroit is done with the nonsense and ready to be a top team that gets treated like New England, Green Bay and Dallas.
