Tomahawks and Touchdowns: Week #3 Recap

The Chiefs had another big victory last week. They played the Los Angeles Chargers on the road and won 24-10. It was their 12th straight win against AFC West opponents. The win moved the Chiefs to 3-0 this season. The victory helped their position in the division and conference standings. After week three the Chiefs and Atlanta Falcons are the only remaining unbeaten teams left this season. The Chiefs are the only unbeaten team in the AFC.


The Chiefs are in first in the AFC West after week #3. The Denver Broncos and Oakland Raiders lost last week and their records are now 2-1. The Chargers loss to the Chiefs which moved them to 0-3 this season. The AFC West is expected to be one of the toughest divisions this season and it is beneficial for the Chiefs to be ahead early in the season.

Kicker Cairo Santos was placed on Injured Reserve because of an injury he suffered in the game last week. He will be replaced by rookie Harrison Butker who was signed off of the Carolina Panthers practice squad. Butker was drafted in the seventh round of the 2017 draft. The Chiefs need Butker to play as well as Santos to continue to be favorites in the AFC.


Rookie Kareem Hunt had another outstanding week. He had 172 rushing yards and one touchdown. His 69-yard touchdown clinched the victory for the Chiefs. Hunt has been a difference maker for the Chiefs offense. He has 538 total yards and six total touchdowns through three games. Hunt’s addition this season is a big reason for the Chiefs success.

The Chiefs will face the Washington Redskins at Arrowhead on Monday night. It will be the Chiefs second NFC East opponent this season. The two teams last played in 2013 when the Chiefs won 45-10. The Chiefs have won 8 of the 9 all-time meetings with the Redskins. The Redskins only win against the Chiefs was in 1983. The Redskins are 2-1 this season. Last week they beat the Oakland Raiders 27-10. The Redskins are a potential NFC playoff team and the game should be a good test for the Chiefs offense and defense. A key matchup to watch will be Tyreek Hill vs. Josh Norman. The Redskins secondary has been strong this season and will be tough for Alex Smith. Overall, it should be a good game between two playoff contenders.
