Titans Defeat Seahawks

There are games in each season that define who teams are. There are even plays that define them. On Sunday, the Tennessee Titans put their hands on the ground and moved forward. Then, did it again, and again, and… well you get the picture. Moved forward is really to tame for what the Titans offensive line did to the vaunted Seattle defensive line. It was more like mauling forward. 195 yards worth. That included DeMarco Murray’s 75-yard touchdown dash on his way to 115 yards on the day. That defines pretty well who the Titans are.

The Titan run defense was equally impressive holding the opponents to 69 yards on 22 carries. The chink in the armor has been the defensive secondary and Seattle did find success through the air. Russell Wilson threw 4 touchdown passes to 4 different receivers and had 373 yards in the game. Those numbers are even more amazing when it seemed like Tennessee put pressure on him almost the entire game. Despite recording just a single sack the defense harassed Wilson continually. It is concerning that the Titans rank 27th in passing yards allowed, surrendering 825 to opposing quarterbacks.

I would like to thank Richard Sherman for committing the late hit/ out of bounds personal foul. Now if Taylor Lewan tries to “dog it” during training camp conditioning we will all know. Midway through the 2nd quarter Marcus Mariota took off out of the pocket to the right. He conceded the play after a short gain by running out of bounds. Sherman blasted Mariota on the sideline. The flag the referee threw was immediate but barely touched the turf before Lewan and a host of other Titans arrived at the scene to get in Sherman’s face. This is the type of play that can galvanize and make a group of guys that work together into a focused team. Focused teams are very dangerous. That defines very well who the Titans are.

Tennessee won the game 33 to 27 to lift the record to 2 wins and 1 loss. That is good enough to remain tied for 1st place in the AFC South with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Next up for the Titans is a trip to NRG stadium to take on the Texans. Check back on Saturday for the preview of that game. #TITANUP
