Dawg Pound Scoop: Back to Back (Losses)

After a late comeback fell short last week against rival in the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Browns looked to rebound in Week 2 against the Baltimore Ravens. The Ravens, having a stellar defense and a home crowd that didn’t disappoint, they looked to take advantage of a young and vulnerable Browns team in the early 2017 season.

The host jumped onto the scoreboard first when ex-Brown RB Terrance West punched in a 4 yard touchdown run which capped off a solid 7 play drive led by veteran QB Joe Flacco. They added onto their early lead midway through the second quarter when RB Javorius Allen snuck out of the backfield and caught a 9 yard bullet from Flacco to put the Browns under pressure with the score at 14-0.

A scare added onto the early problems for the Browns when QB DeShone Kizer went out of the game with a migraine. But the Browns did not crumble, though, as backup QB and the only other active QB listed on the game’s roster Kevin Hogan stepped up and delivered. He led the Browns 83 yards to punch in score through rookie TE David Njoku, making it 14-7.

The Ravens came right back with a veteran 2 minute drill led by Flacco that led to a Jeremy Maclin 2 yard TD catch to essentially put away the Browns even before half, 21-7.

The second half scoring book marked down only a trade off of field goals, as the defense’s starting picking up their play on both sides, not giving an inch.

A Justin Tucker field goal for the Ravens would be the last score of the game, and as the final seconds ticked off, the scoreboard read: Ravens 24 – Browns 10.

Overall, there were some bright spots throughout this game, but the early defensive let ups have been a problem for the Browns. Getting Myles Garrett back healthy will certainly help, but if the Browns want to win games in the meantime, they need to step up the defensive consistency and punch in some more points on the offensive side, or else we will be looking at another 1-15 season.
