Women’s Wrestling Wrap-Up

Welcome to the latest edition of the Women’s Wrestling Wrap-Up, which recaps everything in women’s wrestling in the past week, beginning with Monday’s Raw and ending with No Mercy.sashabankschampagain

Raw was main evented by Sasha Banks and Charlotte fighting over the Women’s Championship, and just like the last time Charlotte defended the title on Raw, it was The BOSS emerging victorious and taking the title for the second time. Dana Brooke was supposed to be in Charlotte’s corner for the match, but she started a confrontation with Bayley, resulting in Bayley taking her down and forcing Charlotte to go it alone. Regarding SmackDown Live the next night, what was supposed to be a singles match between Alexa Bliss and Nikki Bella became a tag team match when Carmella and Becky Lynch got involved. After Nikki chased Carmella away, Alexa got the pin on the SmackDown Women’s Champion just days before No Mercy.

peytonroycenxtWednesday’s NXT saw Peyton Royce in action against Danielle Kamela, who was making her first appearance on NXT TV after working house shows. Not only did Peyton defeat Danielle, but she established her alliance with Billie Kay, doing so a week after they taunted Liv Morgan. On Lucha Underground, Ivelisse defeated Mariposa, and as we saw later on, she has a new boyfriend, Jeremiah (aka former NXT standout Sami Callihan).

Thursday’s Impact featured Gail Kim successfully defending the Knockouts Championship against Sienna, and then being attacked by Sienna, Laurel Van Ness, and Maria Kanellis, who will receive a No DQ rematch for the title. There’s one caveat, as revealed by Aiden O’Shea. If Maria loses, she will no longer be the leader of the Knockouts Division.

Some unfortunate news headed into No Mercy. It was announced on Saturday that Becky Lynch suffered an undisclosed injury that could keep her from competing at the event. The injury was confirmed the next day, and Becky was removed from the card. At the pre-show, Alexa was told that her title opportunity will come on November 8 when SmackDown goes live in Glasgow, Scotland. With that, the match between Nikki Bella and Carmella basically became the top women’s match, and in the end, Nikki finally received her payback with her new move, which she calls “Rack Attack 2.0.” This isn’t the first time we saw the move; Nikki utilized this move at SummerSlam. As for Alexa, she ended up facing Naomi at the event, and the #1 Contender was defeated by the very competitor who is long overdue for a title opportunity.

A new week begins tonight with the fallout from Sasha’s title win. It was officially announced that the rematch will take place at Hell In A Cell on October 30, so we’ll see the buildup for that match. Until next week!
