Royally Yours: Week in Review

The Royals faced three divisional opponents last week. They started their week at home against the Chicago White Sox in a makeup game. They beat the White Sox 8-3. The Royals finished the season with a 14-5 record against the White Sox. The Cleveland Indians were the Royals second opponent last week. The division leading Indians swept the Royals in the three game series. The weekend series was on the road against the Detroit Tigers. The Royals won the series and stayed alive in the wild card race.

The Royals were eliminated from the American League Central race last week. Despite being eliminated from the divisional race the Royals still have a chance in the wild card. They are currently six games back from a wild card berth. The Royals would have to win out and have help from other teams to make the playoffs. There is still a chance but it is unlikely the Royals will be in the playoffs in 2016.

Kendrys Morales hit his 30th home run of the season Saturday. It is the tenth time a Royals player has reached the milestone. Morales leads the team in home runs and OBP this season. He has been one of the Royals biggest offensive threats. Morales will have an opportunity to add to his home run total this week.yordanoventura

Yordano Ventura suffered a back injury during his start Saturday. The injury was just tightness but the Royals took precaution and rested him for the remainder of the game. Ventura should be healthy for his final start Friday against the Cleveland Indians. Ventura has had a disappointing year. This season he has a 4.40 ERA and a record of 11-11. Yordano Ventura is one of the Royals best young players and it is important that he finishes the season healthy.

The Royals have one week left of the 2016 season. They will face two divisional opponents during their final home stand. Their first series is against the Twins. Minnesota will finish last in the American League Central this season. The Royals final series of the 2016 season will be against the Cleveland Indians next weekend. The Indians are leading the division and will likely win it this year. The final week of the regular season should be exciting for the Royals. The games against divisional opponents will have a big impact on how they finish in the American League Central and wild card standings.
