The Lucha Lowdown

Welcome to The Lucha Lowdown, which recaps the most recent edition of Lucha Underground!

luincuetoofficeThe episode began with a training segment featuring Rey Mysterio and Dragon Azteca Jr, who wanted a piece of Pentagon Dark stemming from saving Rey from his wrath two weeks prior. They are later interrupted by Chavo Guerrero, and if memory serves me correctly, this is the first time that the longtime rivals have finally interacted on Lucha Underground. More on Chavo and Rey later.

The scene shifts to the temple, where the Dial of Doom again determines Matanza’s opponent for the Lucha Underground Championship. This time, the lucky winner was The Mack, who hadn’t been seen at the temple in a while, and despite a game effort, The Mack came up short against Matanza. Meanwhile, Johnny Mundo again campaigned for an opportunity at the Lucha Underground Championship, and was again turned down by Cueto, who offered Mundo and the rest of Worldwide Underground a rematch for the Trios Championships. Mundo walked off in disgust, but he was replaced in the match by the phenomenal Taya.

Before Mundo was shown complaining, Son of Havoc was shown at his home (where he lives with his mother) seated next to Mascarita Sagrada. The two of them were shown watching one of Famous B’s commercials, and as we recall, Famous B has plagued both Sagrada and Havoc in the past. It looks like we’ll see them band together against Famous B in due time.

texano-645x368At long last, we see Cage and Texano for the first time this season, as they’re set to face each other. However, Cueto, in Cueto-like fashion, decided to make things interesting, stating that both of them were defeated in the “4 A Unique Opportunity” round robin at Ultima Lucha Dos, but he decided that their match would be for an ultimate opportunity, which he would reveal after the match. Cage won his match and expected his opportunity, but then came another twist from Cueto:  their match was the first in a best of five series, meaning Cage needed to beat Texano two more times.

Scene shifts to Cueto’s office again, where he receives a cap promoting Famous B’s business, and some weird photos that freak him out. Enter Dragon Azteca Jr, who wants Pentagon Dark. Cueto originally refuses, but decides to make the match. The photos suddenly resurface on the desk after he tossed them in the trash, and he ended up giving them to Ricky Mandel. After that, Chavo Guerrero enters, and the segment ends there.

lu4on4The Trios Championship rematch served as the main event, with Drago, Aerostar, and Fenix defeating Jack Evans, PJ Black, and Taya. Worldwide Underground was actually shorthanded due to Jack Evans apparently pouting over being bossed around by Taya. After the match, Mundo joined the rest of the Underground in attacking the champions, only for Sexy Star to get involved and run the rudos out. Methinks a four-on-four match is in the cards.

The show ended with Mysterio in Cueto’s office, and we now know why Chavo was there in the first place:  he wants Dragon Azteca. So that match will happen next week, with the winner facing Pentagon Dark. As for Rey, Cueto named him as the referee in that match. The plot thickens.

That is the Lucha Lowdown for this week! Until next week!
