Royally Yours: Week in Review

The Royals had a disappointing week. They were swept by the Oakland A’s at home. The sweep hurt their playoff chances and it is unlikely that they will make the postseason this year. They finished their week with a series win over the Chicago White Sox. The losses this week hurt their playoff chances and they are likely eliminated from the playoff race.

nedyost2Kansas City is seventh in the American League Wild Card race. They are five and a half games behind the Toronto Blue Jays who are currently the second wild card team. The Royals are 10.5 games behind the Cleveland Indians in the American League Central. They will probably be eliminated from the AL Central race this week.

The 2017 schedule was released last week and the Royals will have some interesting match-ups next season. They will open the season on the road against the Minnesota Twins April 3rd. Their home opener will be against the Oakland A’s April 10th. The Royals will face six National League teams next season. They will face the Cardinals, Dodgers, Giants, Diamondbacks, Rockies and Padres. Their games against the San Francisco Giants will be a rematch of the 2014 World Series. The Royals 2017 season should be exciting and it will feature some great match-ups.

The Royals 3-2 victory over the White Sox was Ned Yost’s 1,000th win as a manager. He has been the manager for the Royals since 2010. He has a 543-542 record with Kansas City. Before he joined the Royals he was the manager of the Milwaukee Brewers.

On Sunday Kendrys Morales got his 1,000th hit. It was a two-run home run in the sixth inning. So far this season he has hit 28 home runs, which is the most on the team. His home run Sunday was a big play for the Royals and contributed to the 10-3 blowout.

The Royals will face three different teams this week. On Monday they will play the Chicago White Sox in a makeup of the May 26th game. They will begin their road series against the Cleveland Indians Tuesday. The Indians are leading the American League Central and have an 8-5 record against the Royals in 2016. The weekend series will be in Detroit against the Tigers. Detroit is three games ahead of the Royals in the AL Central standings. There are two weeks left of the regular season and all the Royals remaining games are against divisional opponents. It should be an exciting last few weeks of baseball for the Royals.
