10 Things I Learned From NFL Week 2

1. RB Injuries

This was a TERRIBLE week for injuries, especially to running backs. Without spending the time to name every injury, I will list the running backs who went down: Adrian Peterson, Jonathan Stewart, Thomas Rawls, Doug Martin, Ameer Abdullah, Arian Foster, and Danny Woodhead. The Chargers lost Woodhead for the season to a ACL tear, the same injury suffered by Keenan Allen last week. I also would like to note that I own each of these players in at least one fantasy league.

2. Bills’ Struggles

Many expected the Bills’ offense to struggle, but nobody predicted what we saw from the defense. Yes, they have some key injuries, but they gave up 493 yards! Rex Ryan dared Fitzpatrick to throw it downfield, and he did just that.

3. New Stadium, New Era

Two teams played at their new home for the first time this week: Rams and Vikings. Both teams fed off of the energy of their crowd to pull off the victories against their division opponents. After 7,987 days, the Rams were finally able to win a home game in LA again.

4. Browns’ QB Shoulder Issues

A week after RGIII was put on IR with a shoulder injury, Josh McCown goes down with a shoulder injury of his own. The Browns have named rookie Cody Kessler the starter against the Dolphins on Sunday. After this upcoming week, the Browns will have had five different starting quarterbacks the past five games dating back to last season. Yikes.

5. Peterson’s QB Changes

After Sam Bradford’s debut with the Vikings, Adrian Peterson has now started with 13 different quarterbacks. If the offensive line does not improve this season, he could add onto that total.

6. Saints/Giants Shootout Misfires

Everyone, myself included, was excited to see the offensive show that was about to be put on in the Meadowlands. Unfortunately, we saw a 16-13 Giants victory that only included one offensive touchdown.

7. Broncos’ Defense Still Elite

Miller, Talib, and company put on a show in Denver on Sunday. They shut down Andrew Luck while getting five sacks, one interception, one fumble, and two touchdowns in their 34-20 victory.

8. Ravens’ Comeback

Cleveland fans went from ecstatic to questioning reality after the Ravens scored 25 unanswered points to complete the comeback 25-20. Some momentum swung to the Ravens’ side after they returned a blocked PAT for their first two points of the game.

9. Struggling Offense

To say the Rams have struggled offensively would be an understatement. After going scoreless in week one, they only put up nine points against the Seahawks. What might be even more sad is that fact that the Rams won. They will travel to Tampa Bay next week in search of their first touchdown of the season.

10. Terminator Ravens

37-year-old Steve Smith Sr. and tight end Dennis Pitta both fought their way back from some serious injuries this season. I can’t explain how they did it, but these two cannot be stopped! Pitta led the team with 102 yards this week, while Smith was right behind him with 64 yards of his own.
