50 Shades of Blue

I have to write this and not swear, but after this weekend I will find it very hard. Due to the international break the blog was on the backburner and with it our early form.chelseavsswansea

Chelsea traveled to Swansea to try and keep up with Man City and get a bit of daylight between us and that Portuguese fellas team.

Chelsea failed in their mission.

Here is the starting line up and the ratings according to sky.

Chelsea: Courtois (5), Ivanovic (6), Cahill (6), Terry (7), Azpilicueta (6), Kante (6), Willian (7), Oscar (6), Matic (7), Hazard (7), Costa (8).

Subs: Fabregas (6), Moses (6), Batshuayi (N/A).

Man of the Match: Diego Costa.

Chelsea controlled the game for literally every minute of the 1st half and it was obvious to every Chelsea fan that a 1-0 lead wasn’t enough. We all sat and waited for Swansea to equalize and it happened.

The game finished 2-2 with Costa bagging a brace.

Chelsea now has 10 points from their 1st 4 games and lay in 2nd position in the table.

Weekend Talking Points.

Cahill and Terry:

terryFor a long time they have battled and been so formidable at the back, but the legs are starting to slow even if the brain is still quick (well a quick brain for JT at least).

Swansea’s equalizer can be looked at as a mistake by Courtois but you can look at the fact both Cahill and JT were left running through treacle as the lightning quick Sigurdsson (sarcasm) made his way through to goal. It made me think should Luiz have started instead of Cahill. Then the sloppiness happened. Yes it was a foul for the 2nd goal but Cahill didn’t at all look comfortable when receiving the ball and no doubt from what I’ve seen previously was just going to hoof the ball upfield anyway so why didn’t JT do it for him. It’s rare Chelsea make 2 huge errors in a game, and Its rare they happen while JT is on the pitch. His leadership skills need to be moved to either Luiz or Zouma when fit because I can’t see the Terry Cahill partnership bearing much fruit as the season goes forward.

Oscar and Matic:oscarchelsea

I am not buying into this Oscar is revived under Conte business! Oscar is now saying he is a box to box midfielder and that’s his best position. Well if he feels he is now being played in his best position yet still performs at an ok standard then we need to get rid now. Oscar and Matic have both had magical moments in a Chelsea shirt but Chelsea love to hold onto a player because of past glories.

Oscar has been busy this season but not effective. Like a washing machine that spins but doesn’t wash your clothes. yes it looks like it’s doing something but the end result is disappointing. I hope he doesn’t turn into another Mikel who has made a career out of the odd good game.

Matic the poor lad looked good yesterday but 2nd half he came out a different player and essentially we played with 10 men. It doesn’t work having him there and Fabregas has been more productive in his cameo rolls than these 2 combined in 480 minutes.

antonioconte2We were linked with Conte before Jose came back and I was a bit skeptical but I looked at his record and I couldn’t argue with it.

He has shown some quality decision making and has blood some of the youth. However he has shown a stubborn side which was Jose’s downfall. To constantly play people in positions that clearly aren’t working is a huge error and especially when have players on the bench who can do a better job. His substitutions are too late in the game and yes they save us but earlier ones could be difference between 1 point and 3 points. I just feel he waits to long to make a change when everyone else can see what needs to happen. Going forward this needs to be rectified or a repeat of last seasons failings will just be what we deserve.

In Other News

Gary Cahill will not be charged for his comments regarding the ref.

Cahill along with the rest of the planet with eyes was shocked that Marriner didn’t offer an obvious free kick when Cahill was fouled.

The FA have said Cahill faces no charges.

Welcome back to David Luiz, because of the international break I didn’t get to say welcome home.

Yes David divides opinion and has lapses of concentration, but on his day he is a fantastic footballer who bought joy and a smile to many blue faces. Luiz ability to bring a team together and create something out of nothing will be an asset to the club.

Marcos Alonso joined the ranks, and some fans moaned that the signing wasn’t big enough. Money spent doesn’t mean a great signing. Chelsea fans would’ve moaned if we bought Kante before Leicester did but were happy to buy him for 30 mill a year later. Alonso isn’t spectacular but is solid and can create with his well polished left foot.

Pit of the Week:costa

Dropping 2 points to Swansea after controlling the game. Not putting them to the sword and killing off the game is becoming our Achilles heel.

Peak of the Week:

Costa’s all round performance was fantastic and was an old school striker battering ram display. Deserved his 2 goals and man of the match award.

Next Fixture Friday 16th September: Liverpool (H)

Until next time……..KTBFFH
