Beyonce Gets the Silver, Beltre the Gold

In America especially, we love to celebrate the triumphs of our sport athletes. This has proven true to the great men and women who represented our great country in the 2016 Olympic games in Rio. The United States women’s gymnastics team has taken full advantage of this fact, and they should, as they have been enjoying quite a celebration tour over the past two weeks. But, if you think about it, t is like the World Baseball Classic, you work extremely hard for 4 years in preparation for a few shining moments, every four years for the honor to represent your country.

papiandalySo far, that tour has included the entire team presenting an award at the MTV Music Video Awards, where they got to met and hang out with stars like Beyonce. It’s also included stops at major-league ballparks. Most notably, individual medalist Aly Raisman as she threw out the first pitch last week at Fenway Park in Boston while David Ortiz served as her medal holder.

This past Saturday, it was Dallas native Madison Kocian’s turn to handle the ceremonial first pitch for her favorite team, the Texas Rangers. Prior to that big moment though, Kocian met many of the Rangers coaches and players, including Adrian Beltre. After her big moment on the Globe Life Park mound she was asked a very interesting question by a reporter, and her response may have been even more interesting. The question was paraphrased something like; “Which was the bigger moment for you, getting to meet Beyonce or Adrian Beltre?” Her responce was the following quote;  “That’s hard, but I’d have to go with Beltre. Beyonce was very nice and it was awesome meeting her with my teammates and presenting her award (at the VMAs), but I have to go with Beltre. I am a very big Rangers madisonkocinrangersfan.”

In other words, Beyonce gets the silver and Beltre gets the gold! It may have also been helped out by the autographed bat Beltre signed for her. Her support was rewarded very quickly on Saturday afternoon. In the second inning, Beltre connected for career home run No. 439. That moved him past Andre Dawson and into a tie with Paul Konerko for 42rd on the all-time list. So she not only met him, she got to witness a significant moment.

This isn’t to say Beltre isn’t a big deal. He absolutely is, especially in Texas. But Beyonce is a once-in-a-generation star with a following that’s second to no other current star. She’s just second to Beltre in the eyes of Kocian.

As for his big perfect, it included some flair as she added a handstand to her windup before delivering a strike.

Thanks for sticking the landing, and sticking to your baseball roots as a Texas Ranger’s Fan!
