Last season the Chiefs beat the San Diego Chargers in both of their meetings. Their first match-up was week 11 in San Diego. In that game the Chiefs dominated the Chargers 33-3. The Kansas City defense had a big game limiting Philip Rivers to 178 yards, zero touchdowns, and one interception. The second match-up was week 14 in Kansas City and the Chiefs won 10-3. It was a close game but the defense held up against a final San Diego drive. The Chargers will be better this year and the game this week could be very close.

riversvschiefsThe Chargers made some big moves in the off-season. They signed former Cleveland Browns wide receiver Travis Benjamin to a four-year contract. Benjamin will add talent to the Chargers offense and his biggest skill is getting yards after the catch. The Chiefs will need to be prepared for Benjamin and his offensive threat. The Chargers biggest draft pick this year was Joey Bosa. He did not sign his contract until late August due to contract negotiations. He will add talent to the defensive line and has the potential to be one of the best pass rushers in the NFL.

The Chiefs will start the season with some key players injured. Jamaal Charles tore his ACL last season and he is still not completely healed. It is unlikely that he will be ready to play week one. The Chiefs also had some important injuries on defense. Justin Houston will start the season on the PUP list and will miss at least the first six games. Charles and Houston are impact players for the Chiefs and their absence could have a big impact Sunday.chargers-vs-chiefs

The Chiefs match-up Sunday with the Chargers will be important and could have big implications in the AFC West title race. San Diego has improved and the game will probably be closer than many people think. The Chargers added some talent on both offense and defense during the off-season and they should be competitive in the division. The Chiefs injuries to key players could have a big impact and they will need players to step up to be successful this year. Overall, the match-up with the Chargers should be an exciting game for the Chiefs to kickoff their 2016 season.
