Eric Berry signed his franchise tag over the weekend and he became the highest paid safety in the NFL. The contract is worth $10.806 million and is for one year. He will hit the free agent market next season where he will demand a lot of attention. Berry has been one of the Chiefs best players throughout his career but 2015 was exceptional. He had 61 combined tackles and two interceptions. He was named to his fourth Pro Bowl and second All-Pro roster.

Linebacker Justin Houston was placed on the physically unable to perform list to start the season. He will miss the first six weeks of the season and depending on his progress could miss more. He battled a knee injury last season, which severely impacted his performance. He underwent surgery in the off-season to repair the injured knee. He is not expected to miss the entire season but it is uncertain when he will return.

The Chiefs picked up their first preseason win last week when they faced the Chicago Bears. They got off to a quick start leading 15-0 at halftime. The Chiefs ended up winning the game 23-3. They held the Bears to 223 total yards. Overall it was a very good game for the Chiefs and they looked strong on offense, defense and special teams.

Tyler Bray will start the game Thursday. The quarterback position will be the biggest battle. The Chiefs still have five quarterbacks on the roster and they will need to make a decision this week about who to keep and who to cut. They are trying to trade Aaron Murray and it appears that they will keep four quarterbacks on the roster. The fourth preseason game will be very important for the Chiefs because it will finalize the regular season roster.

The regular season is one week away and the Chiefs are starting to figure out what the team will look like. Eric Berry returned to the Chiefs Sunday and he will play a big role in 2016. Justin Houston was placed on the PUP list and will miss at least six weeks of the regular season because of his off-season knee surgery. The final preseason game will give the Chiefs their last opportunity to figure out who will make the 53-man roster.
