5 NBA Bigtime Breakouts; Marcus Smart

This year could be a big season for Marcus Smart. Coming off of a disappointing sophomore campaign, Marcus has made it clear of what he wants, and needs to work on. After shooting 34.8% from the floor and 25.3% from 3, he told the media he knew what he would work hardest at this off-season. This is Smart’s first fully healthy off-season of his young NBA career, which makes it that much more appealing for us to see his improvements when the regular season rolls around.MarcusSmart

Evan Turner leaving for Portland will give Smart more opportunities to make plays and get more shots. The departure of Turner leaves 10 points and 4 assists that were being contributed to the team last season. Marcus will likely take over Turner’s role and if he improves his shooting numbers, alongside with the additional playmaking opportunities, Smart could be set up to average upwards of 15 points and 5 assists per game.

We all know what he will give us on the defensive end, but if he adds a legit offensive game he could become one of the most dangerous two way players in the league. Another reason he is primed for a breakout season is his age and experience. Although he’s still only 22, two years of NBA experience generally gives players a feel for the style of play which will make it more comfortable for them on the court.
