The Royals are currently third in the American League Central. They are six games behind the Detroit Tigers. They will get a chance to take on the Tigers this week in Detroit. The Royals are eleven games behind the division leading Cleveland Indians. The Indians have been hot lately winning four straight games. The Royals are seven and half games behind in the Wild Card Race. They will need to keep winning to be in the playoff hunt.

Danny Duffy continues to be one of the most surprising players this season. He had another great performance Thursday. He pitched his first complete game in his career and only allowed one earned run. This season he has the lowest WHIP in the American League and the second lowest ERA. It has been a breakout season for Danny Duffy and he could help the Royals make a playoff run.

Paulo Orlando is another player that has played well for the Royals this season. He has a .334 batting average and the second highest offensive WAR on the team. He has also been outstanding as an outfielder. As a center fielder this season he has a perfect fielding percentage. Orlando has been a surprise for the Royals on both offense and defense.PauloOrlando

One area where the Royals have struggled this year is leaving players on base. The Royals average 6.57 runners left on base per game which is the fifth highest in the American League. Getting base runners home is key because the Royals have already lost 15 one run games this season. The Royals will need to lower their average runners left on base to be more competitive in close games.

The Royals will face two division rivals again this week. They will start their week off against the Tigers in Detroit. The Tigers are second in the American League Central and the Royals will need to have a good performance to close the gap in the standings. The Royals weekend series will be at home against the Twins. The Royals had a good performance against the Twins last week and they will try to build on that performance to get valuable wins in the division.
