Women’s Wrestling Wrap-Up

Welcome to the latest edition of the Women’s Wrestling Wrap-Up, which details everything in the past week in women’s wrestling, beginning with Monday’s Raw.

RusevLanaCakeOn Raw this past Monday, Sasha Banks had the opportunity to take Dana Brooke out of the equation in her upcoming defense of the Women’s Championship against Charlotte, and she successfully did so by defeating Dana in singles action. Per Mick Foley’s stipulation, Dana will not be at ringside come SummerSlam next Sunday, making the title rematch a pure one-on-one contest. We also saw Lana suffer some embarrassment thanks to Roman Reigns, when she and Rusev attempted to celebrate their recent nuptials resulted in Lana getting a face full of cake, while also doing a not-so-stellar homage to Stephanie McMahon’s primal scream from 2002.

SmackDown Live featured Eva Marie again failing to make her in-ring debut, this time with a “wardrobe malfunction.” Upset of the Red Queen’s latest timely mishap, Becky Lynch demanded action, and received it in the form of Alexa Bliss, who defeated the Lass Kicker after Eva Marie’s resurgence caused a distraction. Later on, Carmella and Natalya finally faced each other, with the Princess of Staten Island victorious over the Queen of Harts; truly a good night for the New Era’s female superstars.

BaileyAsukaContractSigningNXT featured the anticipated contract signing between Asuka and Bayley, which ended with Bayley refusing to shake the entering champion’s hand. Later on, Billie Kay, in all her evil glory, continued her winning ways against Liv Morgan. I love Billie Kay more and more every time I see her, and it still amazes me how well she’s doing at playing a heel; especially since she was a babyface for the most part as Jessie McKay in the independent scene. Gail’s quest continued the next night on Impact Wrestling, as she defeated Marti Belle in a No DQ match, despite Maria and Allie’s involvement. After Jade saved Gail from a post match beatdown, Maria ordered the two of them to face each other next week.

A new week begins tomorrow with the home stretch before SummerSlam Weekend. NXT Takeover:  Back in Brooklyn will take place this upcoming Saturday, and SummerSlam will end the week. Until then!
