Tomahawks and Touchdowns: Chiefs Training Camp Update

The Chiefs are in the middle of training camp and their first preseason game is Saturday against the Seahawks. The Chiefs added another quarterback this week and are still dealing with injuries and contract negotiations.


NickFolesKCThe Chiefs signed quarterback Nick Foles to a one-year contract Thursday. Foles will reunite with his former Eagles head coach Andy Reid. He had a breakout year in 2013 when he took over for an injured Michael Vick. Foles finished the season with 27 touchdowns and 2 interceptions, which is the lowest single season TD/INT ratio in NFL history. He threw for seven touchdowns against the Raiders, which is tied for the most in a game. He was named to the 2014 Pro Bowl roster. He will likely be Alex Smith’s backup and he will add valuable depth to the quarterback position.


Eric Berry is still not signed to a long-term contract. The Chiefs placed a franchise tag on Berry this off-season but contract negotiations have stalled. They are optimistic that they will sign Berry before the season starts. Eric Berry will be crucial to the Chiefs success this season. Last season he was a first team All-Pro and was named to his fourth Pro Bowl.


The Chiefs are dealing with injuries to key players this preseason. Jamaal Charles and Tamba Hali have been two of the biggest absences. Jamaal Charles is recovering from a knee injury he suffered last season. Tamba Hali had knee surgery this off-season and is still recovering. The Chiefs expect both to be healthy at the beginning of the season. Both players will play a big part of the Chiefs success in 2016.TambaHali2


The Chiefs first preseason game will be at home against the Seattle Seahawks. They will have an opportunity to give some of their young and inexperienced players a chance to gain valuable playing experience. The Chiefs beat the Seahawks last preseason 14-13. Seattle has one of the best defenses in football and it will be a good test for the Chiefs offense.


It has been an exciting preseason for the Chiefs so far. The Chiefs signed Nick Foles last week and he will likely be the backup to Alex Smith. They are still in negotiations with Eric Berry for a long-term contract. Jamaal Charles and Tamba Hali are still injured but will likely be ready for the regular season. The Chiefs first preseason game will be against the Seattle Seahawks this Saturday. The Chiefs are about halfway through training camp and they are starting to work out some of their biggest issues facing them this season.
