Cleat Geeks

Top Ten Thursday

  1. Chicago Cubs

Cubs

Last week: #1

Kyle Hendricks is emerging as the Cubs’ ace and Javier Baez continues to impress this year. The bullpen is now stacked from young talent like Carl Edwards Jr. (who looks as confident as ever) to the flame thrower Aroldis Chapman. I can’t wait to see that postseason roster.

  1. Cleveland Indians

Indians

Last week: #3

ANDREW MILLER! The Indians mean business as they make the push to October. They’re all in.

  1. Washington Nationals

Nationals

Last week: #2

Their new closer Mark Melancon, acquired from the Pirates, is an upgrade since Jonathan Papelbon has been struggling.

  1. Texas Rangers

Rangers

Last week: #8

The Rangers pulled off two major trades and set themselves up as favorites to win the World Series. Their (already great) lineup will be improved with Carlos Beltran and Jonathan Lucroy. The Texas bullpen also improved, adding hard-throwing closer Jeremy Jeffress to the mix.

  1. Toronto Blue Jays

BlueJays

Last week: #7

The Blue Jays’ pitching staff will now have a new look. They acquired three new pitchers from three different teams. The team will also transition starter Aaron Sanchez to the bullpen, with newly-acquired Francisco Liriano most likely getting that open spot in the starting rotation.

  1. San Francisco Giants

Giants

Last week: #5

The return of Hunter Pence could be exactly what the offense needs.

  1. Los Angeles Dodgers

Dodgers

Last week: #9

The Dodgers are giving Yasiel Puig a major wake-up call, as they sent him down to the minors.

  1. Baltimore Orioles

Orioles

Last week: #6

The newly-acquired Wade Miley gives the Orioles’ rotation an upgrade and the bullpen a much needed break.

  1. Boston Red Sox

RedSox

Last week: #4

The big move Boston made was calling up prospect Andrew Benintendi.

  1. Houston Astros

Astros

Last week: #10

The Astros decided not to make any big moves to improve the team in the middle of a playoff race. Maybe they believe that this is not the year for them to go all in.
