Royally Yours: Week in Review

The Royals had another rough week losing six of seven games. They lost their home series against the Los Angeles Angels and were swept by the Rangers in Arlington. The Royals had an eventful week filled with injuries and trades.

Kansas City is fourth in the American League Central. They are 12 games out of first and eight and a half games behind in the wild card race. They are six games under .500 and playoff hopes are looking slim. The Royals will face the White Sox, Twins and Tigers in August. They will need to win these games to have a chance at repeating as American League Central Champions.

The Royals lost another pitcher this week when the Royals placed Wade Davis on the 15-Day Disabled List. Davis returned to Kansas City on Saturday to get a MRI of his right arm. He was diagnosed with a flexor strain in his right arm. There were rumors of the Royals trading Wade Davis but the injury could prevent a deal going through.

Kansas City swapped outfielders with the Oakland Athletics on Saturday. The Royals acquired Billy Burns and sent Brett Eibner to the Athletics. Billy Burns had a breakout year in 2015. He had a .297 batting average and 26 stolen bases which was the third most in the American League. Burns could eventually be the Royals leadoff hitter because of his consistency and speed. Burns is mainly a center fielder but could also be used in the corners.

The trade deadline is Monday and multiple Royals players have been involved in trade rumors. Earlier this week there were rumors that the Dodgers were considering a deal that would send Wade Davis and Ian Kennedy to Los Angeles. Luke Hochevar was also mentioned in trade rumors but his injury prevented any deals. Kendrys Morales is another player that the Royals would consider trading but there does not appear to be a team interested. It should be an exciting couple of days for Royals fans because of the potential for a blockbuster trade.

The Royals will face the Tampa Bay Rays and Toronto Blue Jays next week. They will face the Rays on the road in a three game series. The Royals swept the Rays at home earlier this season. The Royals weekend series will be at home against the Blue Jays. The Blue Jays swept the Royals in Toronto in July. Overall it should be an exciting week of baseball for the Royals with the trade deadline and key American League matchups.
