Royally Yours: Week in Review

IndianslogoLast week was tough for the Kansas City Royals. They played the Cleveland Indians and Texas Rangers at home and lost both series. The Royals are under .500 and did not make up any ground in the American League Central or Wild Card standings. The Royals will need to fix their mistakes in the next couple weeks to have a chance in the play-off race.

TigersLogoThe Royals are third in the American League Central behind the Cleveland Indians and Detroit Tigers. The Indians are eight games ahead of the Royals and had an important series win over Kansas City last week. The next match-up with the Indians will be at the end of September. The Royals are two games behind the Detroit Tigers. Their next match-up with Detroit will be in early September.

The Royals biggest weakness this season has been the pitching staff. The Royals have given up 131 home runs this season, which is the most in the American League and the second most in baseball. Danny Duffy is the only starting pitcher with a winning record. The Royals will need to fix their pitching woes to have a chance in the American League playoff hunt.

The Royals will likely be a team that will be making big moves as the trade deadline approaches. The non-waver trade deadline is August 1st and the Royals have a lot of decisions to make before the deadline. The Royals could pick up a starting pitcher at the deadline. The Red Sox’s Clay Buchholz appears to be the pitcher the Royals are most interested in acquiring. There are also rumors that the Royals could be sellers at the trade deadline. Kendrys Morales and Wade Davis would be the most likely options for the Royals to sell at the deadline. It should be an eventful week for the Royals.

RoyalsWhiteHouseThe Royals visited the White House Thursday to honor the 2015 World Series champions. They visited with the President and presented him with a Royals jersey. The Royals players seemed to enjoy their visit but some former Royals were disappointed that they were not invited. Johnny Cueto was apparently upset that he was not invited to the White House ceremony. Cueto pitched a two hit shutout in game two of the World Series.

The Royals will play two American League West teams next week. Their first series will be against the Los Angeles Angles at home. The Angels swept the Royals earlier this season in Anaheim. The Royals weekend series will be on the road against the Rangers. These match-ups could be important in the wild card race at the end of the season. It should be an eventful week for the Royals because of the upcoming trade deadline and important American League match-ups.
