Women’s Wrestling Wrap-Up

Welcome to the latest edition of the Women’s Wrestling Wrap-Up, which details everything in women’s wrestling in the past week, beginning with Monday’s Raw.

As promised, Raw saw Sasha Banks and Dana Brooke face off, after the blonde villainess challenged The BOSS on SmackDown. As expected, Sasha made Dana tap out, but an unimpressed Charlotte decided to force her rival to face Dana again to prove herself. Sasha did just that to kick off the final Thursday SmackDown and defeated Dana again, only for Charlotte to attack her after her victory. More on SmackDown’s events later.

DestinationXKnockoutsTuesday’s Destination X edition of Impact Wrestling featured a blockbuster Knockouts Championship match, which saw Sienna successfully defend against Gail Kim, Marti Bell, and Jade in a four way match. This was also the last Tuesday Impact, as the show now moves to Thursdays to avoid clashing with the live SmackDown. Speaking of blockbusters, Wednesday’s Lucha Underground saw Sexy Star pick up her biggest win at Ultima Lucha Dos, capturing the Gift of the Gods Championship. Sexy Star outlasted Daga, Killshot, Sinestro de la Muerte, Black Claw, and her longtime enemies, Marty the Moth and Mariposa, to capture the title. Sexy Star became the first female to win a singles championship in LU, and the second female champion overall after Ivelisse.

Sasha-Banks-Dana-BrookeAfter the post-match attack on SmackDown, Charlotte and Dana Brooke ran into Sasha again, and stated that the two of them will face off against Sasha and a partner of her choosing at Battleground. There is a lot of speculation regarding who Sasha’s partner will be. The obvious selection is Bayley, the standout from NXT. I do see Bayley being her partner; some other options I’ve considered are Paige and even Emma, who could feel like Dana Brooke forgot about her when she became injured. We will definitely know on Sunday!

Alicia Fox returned to action on Main Event as Becky Lynch’s opponent on the program. This was Alicia’s first appearance of any kind since April, as she has been on proverbial limbo after Brie Bella’s retirement and Nikki Bella recuperating from surgery. Alicia spent the latter half of 2015 and early 2016 as a villainess aligned with the Bellas as part of Team Bella, but it was Brie’s brief feud with Lana that turned Alicia babyface. Alicia was actually backstage at Raw in Detroit last Monday, but not used on the main program.

A new week begins tonight, and the Brand Extension returns! It’s a big week in wrestling overall; Raw tonight, the first live SmackDown tomorrow, the conclusion of Ultima Lucha Dos on Wednesday, Thursday Impact, and it all ends at Battleground on Sunday. We will get a huge Ivelisse fix this week, as she’ll be on this Wednesday to face off against Taya, and she’ll be at SHINE 36 defending her SHINE Championship against Su Yung. Until next week!
