Royally Yours: Week in Review

The Royals had a break this week because of the All Star Game and only played one series this week. They lost their weekend series to the Detroit Tigers. The Royals are still trailing in the American League Central but they will have an opportunity to make up some ground when they play the division leading Cleveland Indians this week.

EricHosmerAllStarEric Hosmer was selected to his first All Star Game this year and he proved that he deserved the honor. Hosmer went 2 for 4 with a home run and two RBI’s in his first All Star Game. In the second inning he hit a home run off of former World Series teammate Johnny Cueto. He was named All Star Game MVP for his outstanding performance. Hosmer is only the second Royal to win All Star MVP, Bo Jackson won it in 1989.

SalPerezall-starHosmer was not the only Royal to have a big night last Tuesday. Salvador Perez also had a big game. Perez also hit a home run off of Cueto and was responsible for 2RBI’s. Eric Hosmer and Salvador Perez were the only two American League players with a RBI. Kelvin Herrera also made a big impact pitching a shutout inning. The Royals were well represented and had a fantastic outing at the All Star Game this year.

The Royals are currently in third in the American League Central. They are eight games behind the division leading Cleveland Indians and one and a half games behind the Detroit Tigers. The Royals will play the Indians at home this week and they will have an opportunity to make up some ground against the division leader. The Royals are also four games out of the wild card race.

The Royals pitching staff continues to be a liability. The Royals will be looking to trade for a starting pitcher before the deadline. The Royals do not have a lot of valuable prospects to boost trade value. The Royals will need to find an under the radar pitcher to help their starting rotation.

The Royals will have important match-ups next week. Their first series will be at home against the Cleveland Indians. The Royals swept the Indians at home last month. Their weekend series will be at home against the Texas Rangers. The Rangers are leading the American League West but are 3-7 in their last ten games. It should be an exciting week for the Royals and the outcome of these match-ups could have a big impact in the division and wild card races.
