Royally Yours: Week in Review

The Royals had a rough week losing five of seven games. They were swept by the Blue Jays in Toronto and lost their series at home against the Mariners. The Royals will get a break this week for the All-Star Game. The Royals will have key division match-ups when they return from the All-Star break.


The Royals are third in the American League Central behind the Cleveland Indians and Detroit Tigers. They are seven games behind the Indians and half a game behind the Detroit Tigers. The Royals will face both teams when they return from the All-Star break. Those games will be very important in the American League Central race.


KCAllStarsThe All-Star game is Tuesday and four Royals will represent the American League. Eric Hosmer and Salvador Perez were named starters to the All-Star roster. Salvador Perez led the American League in All-Star votes. Kelvin Herrera and Wade Davis were also named to the American League All-Star roster. Wade Davis will miss the trip because of a forearm strain. Ned Yost will manage the American League in the All-Star Game. The Royals will be well represented in San Diego this week.


The Royals pitching staff continues to struggle. The Royals gave up six or more runs in three of their losses last week. There are rumors that the Royals are looking to trade for a starting pitcher. The Royals biggest concern right now is depth. The Royals starters have a combined 4.99 ERA. The starting pitchers will need to get back on track for the Royals to be in the playoff hunt the second half of the season.


Cheslor Cuthbert has been one of the most surprising players for the Royals this season. He has a .977 fielding percentage and a .282 batting average. He leads the Royals with the highest batting average in July at .344. Cuthbert has been effective in his replacement of Mike Moustakas. He has been one of the most consistent players for the Royals despite their struggles.


The Royals will have some time off this week for the All-Star Game. Their first game back will be on the road against the Detroit Tigers. Their weekend series against the Tigers will be one of the most important series for the Royals so far this season. The Royals are a half a game behind the Tigers. The games next weekend could help sort out the American League Central standings.
