Welcome to Dodger Town #9: A week in review

6-4 in their last 10 games it seems the Dodgers were on the rise and have now leveled. Here’s a brief summary of the week.

Injuries

CoreySeager2Joc Pederson is almost done with his 15 day DL but we it remains to be seen if he will be back the game after the All star game or not. Kersh was once again selected to the All star but, due to his injury won’t participate. Hopefully he doesn’t take long to return after the break. The return of both of these players is key to the Dodgers future success, specifically, Kersh.

Seager!
He made it! His first all star appearance and home-run derby appearance. The Dodgers put three all Stars in the game but perhaps none as exciting as Seager. Why? It signals the beginning of something special. With guys like Joc, Trayce and Seager on the squad the Dodgers have hope for the future. Jensen has also been brilliant this year and hid appearance in the game is well deserved and Kersh, is Kersh.

Pitching
Some positive and negative here. Urias had his worst game of the season this week giving up 5 runs on 6 hits while only going three and a third innings. He wasn’t the only one to struggle as Maeda and Kazmir also got crushed. Even Bud Norris came back down to earth after his stellar opening performance. What’s the positive in all this? The potential that we have is back. After going half the season with pitchers having to be pulled up from triple A and then dropped like bad habits the next day, the Dodgers are starting to see the rotation they hoped for. Of course these guys are going to be a bit rusty, but as they settle in they at the very least, will get back to the original rotation from March. With pitchers starting to recover at least we can settle into some semblance of balance as opposed to the pitching carousel it has been.

Highlight of the week

In a week filled with a lot of losses there is one positive the Dodgers are closing in on the Giants. Now only down 6.5 doing into the all star break is a big positive considering they have been down as many as 13. Now the Dodgers get a chance to reset and come back with a new mindset. It wont be easy to win the division, but that is always the goal.
