Tomahawks and Touchdowns: AFC West Preview

The Kansas City Chiefs finished second in the AFC West in 2015. The AFC West should be one of the most competitive divisions in 2016. The division will look a little different this season due to the retirement of Peyton Manning and Charles Woodson. Here is a preview of each AFC West team.Broncos Chiefs Football

Denver Broncos:

The reigning Super Bowl Champions will look different in 2016. Peyton Manning retired in the off-season and star linebacker Von Miller is still in a contract standoff. Paxton Lynch was drafted in the first round of the 2016 NFL Draft and will likely be Denver’s long term solution at quarterback. There are a lot of questions on offense and defense for the Broncos in 2016 but they should still be competitive within the division. In 2015 the Broncos beat the Chiefs at Arrowhead but lost to Kansas City at home.Raiders Chiefs Football

Oakland Raiders:

The Oakland Raiders will be a team to watch in 2016. Derek Carr has improved every year and 2016 could be his breakout season. The Raiders will need to play better in the division to have a chance at winning the division. In the off-season they signed former Chief Sean Smith and drafted West Virginia safety Karl Joseph in the first round of the 2016 draft. The Raiders will be without Charles Woodson who retired after the 2015 season. The Chiefs won both of their games against the Raiders last season.KCSD

San Diego Chargers:

The Chargers had a disappointing season in 2015. They only won four games all season and did not win a game against an AFC West opponent. The Chargers drafted Ohio State defensive end Joey Bosa with the third pick of the 2016 NFL Draft. Joey Bosa was one of the best pass rushers in college football and the Chargers are counting on him to improve the San Diego defense. The Chiefs won both of their games against the San Diego Chargers in 2015.

All four teams in the AFC West have a chance at winning the division title in 2016. Each team added talent in the 2016 NFL Draft that will make an immediate impact. The Chiefs played well against AFC West teams in 2015 and they will need to have similar success in 2016 to have a chance at winning the division. Overall, the AFC West should be an exciting division in 2016 it will likely be one of the most competitive in the NFL next season.
