Tomahawks and Touchdowns: Five Players to Watch in 2016

The Chiefs have a lot of talent on their roster this season but there are five players that could make a big impact. The Chiefs success this season will likely depend on the performance of these players. Here are my five players to watch this year for the Kansas City Chiefs.DeeFord

Dee Ford:

Dee Ford could have a big season if Justin Houston does not return to full strength. Ford improved last season and should be even better in 2016. He had four sacks and 23 combined tackles last season. Dee Ford could be a big player for the Chiefs this season if he improves upon his performance last season and gets valuable playing time due to Justin Houston’s injury issues.

Jamaal Charles:

Jamaal Charles tore his ACL week 5 against the Chicago Bears. The Chiefs went 10-1 without Charles and Charcandrick West and Spencer Ware stepped up to fill his role. Charles will need to have a season that differentiates himself from West and Ware. Jamaal Charles needs to have a big year to prove his value to the Chiefs.

Chris Conley:

Chris Conley could have a break out year in 2016. In the off-season he worked out with Jeremy Maclin and Albert Wilson. The Chiefs are in need of a second consistent wide receiver. Conley can open up the offense and have impressive numbers this season. If Chris Conley continues to improve he could be a big player for the Chiefs.ChrisConleyCenter

Marcus Peters:

Marcus Peters was one of the most surprising rookies in the NFL last season. He was the AP NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year. He was also named to the Pro Bowl and the second team All-Pro roster. He will be tested this season because of the loss of Sean Smith to the Raiders. If Peters has a big season again in 2016 he could be one of the best cornerbacks in the NFL.

Dontari Poe:DontariPoe

2016 is a contract year for Dontari Poe and he will need to have a big year to stay on the Chiefs roster in 2017. The Chiefs signed fellow nose tackle Jaye Howard to a contract extension in the off-season. Dontari Poe needs to have a good year to prove to the Chiefs that he is still a playmaker. Contract years are always important but because of the uncertainty with his future it is even more intriguing.

The Chiefs have a lot of impactful players on their roster but the five that I think are worth watching in 2016 are Dee Ford, Jamaal Charles, Chris Conley, Marcus Peters and Dontari Poe. These five players are crucial to the Chiefs success next season.
