IanKenedyRoyalsThe Royals had a disappointing week. They were swept by the Mets in New York and lost their series against the Astros at home. The Royals pitching struggled giving up an average of over 6 runs per game. The Royals offense is looking better and the return of Alex Gordon should help them on offense and defense.


The Royals pitching staff had a bad week especially against the Astros. On Friday and Saturday the Royals gave up thirteen runs. Ian Kennedy is the only starter with an ERA under four. Although the Royals starting pitchers have struggled the bullpen has been elite. The Royals currently have the lowest bullpen ERA in baseball. The bullpen had been invaluable to the Royals but the starting pitchers will need to improve this season.

Alex Gordon returned from the disabled list on Saturday. Gordon broke his wrist on May 22nd when he collided with Mike Moustakas on a foul ball. Gordon has had a disappointing season so far with a .219 batting average. His biggest asset to the Royals will be his defense. He has four Gold Gloves and one Platinum Glove. Alex Gordon will be a nice addition to the Royals lineup.Alex-Gordon


The Royals offense is getting better and their power has been impressive. Kendrys Morales had two home runs in the Royals win over the Astros Sunday. Salvador Perez and Cheslor Cuthbert both have five home runs this month. The Royals are not typically a power hitting team but they have shown that they have the capability when it is needed.


The Royals are currently in second in the American League Central. They are five games behind the Cleveland Indians. The Royals are still two games ahead of the Chicago White Sox and Detroit Tigers. They will not face an American League Central team until after the All-Star Game. This will benefit the Royals because it will give them time to figure out their pitching situation before playing important divisional RoyalsVScardinalsgames. The standings should not be concerning to the Royals because they still have a lot of games to play against division rivals.


The Royals will play two National League teams this week. They will start off the week at home against instate rival St. Louis Cardinals. It will be a two game series and the Royals are scheduled to face Adam Wainwright and Michael Wacha. The Royals will travel to St. Louis on Wednesday and play a two game series against the Cardinals on the road. Their weekend series will be against the Philadelphia Phillies. The Phillies started off the season strong but have struggled recently and are fourth in the National League East. The Royals will have interesting match-ups next week and it will be a great week of interleague play.
