The Lucha Lowdown (June 8, 2016)

Welcome to the latest edition of The Lucha Lowdown, which recaps the latest episode of Lucha Underground!

BlackLotusBlack Lotus and Dario Cueto kicked things off, as after her encounter with Dragon Azteca Jr., she was having doubts about Cueto’s claim that El Dragon Azteca killed her parents. However, Cueto not only continues to claim that, but he stated to Black Lotus that she’ll face El Dragon Azteca at Ultima Lucha 2, and if she wins, she’ll remove his mask. This is what I’ve waited a long time for; Black Lotus in the ring!

Regarding in-ring action, we see Marty the Moth creeping over Melissa Santos yet again (seriously, Melissa needs to slap him) before taunting Killshot and showing off his rival’s dog tags. This is stemming from their encounter two weeks ago, which ended with Killshot defeating Marty, only for Marty to beat him down after the final bell sounded. The rematch was even more brutal, especially with Marty making things personal, and as expected, nothing was settled. The match ended in a double countout, but Killshot appeared to have regained his property, until Marty stole the tags back. I see this being settled at Ultima Lucha 2.

We now see Mr. Cisco in a holding room, coming off being arrested by Joey Ryan and Cortez Castro after Cisco caught them searching Cueto’s office. Captain Vasquez, who has been on the Cueto case for God knows how long, has a proposition for Cisco:  either wear a wire as part of the investigation on Cueto, or face severe jail time. Vasquez stated that Cueto is the “linchpin for the end of days.” Ooooh. It’s going to be a long four weeks until Ultima Lucha 2, where the proverbial floodgates are sure to open. Meanwhile, a Nunchucks Match took place in the temple, with Drago and Aerostar defeating 2/3 of the Trios Champions, Jack Evans and PJ Black. Methinks that Drago and Aerostar are in line for the titles with this win, all they need is a partner.MundoLU

Of course, it was mentioned at the beginning of the program that a six-on-six main event will take place later on, with the match having Lucha Underground Championship aspirations. In a typical Cueto twist, the winning team will face each other next week for a shot at the title. The teams were as follows:  Prince Puma, Texano, Sexy Star, The Mack, Son of Havoc, and Rey Mysterio on one side; Johnny Mundo, Taya, Ivelisse, Fenix, King Cuerno, and Chavo Guerrero on the other. At least that’s how it started. During Chavo’s entrance, Pentagon Jr resurfaced, thanking Chavo for supporting him…well, before beating him down and breaking his arm. Pentagon Jr ended up replacing Chavo in the main event, which had some interesting moments, most notably Ivelisse confronting Taya, while also having to fight her former longtime partner, Son of Havoc. When all the dust settled, Johnny Mundo picked up the victory for his side when he pinned Prince Puma.

So next week, Mundo, Taya, Ivelisse, Fenix, Cuerno, and Pentagon Jr will fight each other for a shot at Matanza and the LU Title at Ultima Lucha 2! That is The Lucha Lowdown! Until next week!
