Despite the Minnesota Lynx shooting poorly in the first half Moore and Fowler were able to lead the Lynx over the Mercury. The Lynx were down at half for the first time this season 38-32. They came storming back when Britney Griner picked up her 5th foul and came out the game. Fowler hit back to back threes to give Minnesota a 70-67 point lead their first lead since early in the game when it was 18-17.  The Lynx then went on a 14-2 run and never looked back.SylviaFowler

“If you told me we would shot 37 percent playing Phoenix, I would have told you we lost by 20,” Lynx coach Cheryl Reeve said. “Phoenix’s defense went to another level today and put us under duress. I told the team I’m proud of them for finding a way.”MayaMoore

“That’s the grit of this team,” said Minnesota’s Maya Moore, who matched Fowler’s 21 points on Tuesday. “At the end of the day, we came together as a team, and everybody did what they do, with confidence and poise. Kind of the opposite of a few of our games, where we’ve had big leads and not closed them out with the same amount of intensity. It was a good game for us to be tested, and I’m really, really pleased with the way we responded.”

The WNBA’s 20th season has fittingly opened with a piece of history: For the first time ever, multiple teams are 8-0.

The Minnesota Lynx and Los Angeles Sparks both have the record of 10 consecutive wins to start a season in their sights. The Minnesota Lynx start the season 8-0, which is their best start since 2012 when they started 10-0. The Minnesota Lynx would have the first chance to set the record, June 14 in a 2015 Finals rematch against the Indiana Fever on ESPN 2.

To beat the record Minnesota would have to beat the following three teams; June 10: @ Atlanta, 7:30 PM ET, June 11: @ Washington, 7:00 PM ET, and June 14: vs. Indiana, 8:00 PM ET. While the Los Angeles Sparks would have to beat their next 3 opponents, which are; June 11: @ Dallas, 8:30 PM ET, June 14: vs. Chicago, 10:30 PM ET, and June 17: vs. Phoenix, 10:30 PM ET.
