The Lucha Lowdown

Welcome to the latest edition of The Lucha Lowdown, which covers the most recent episode of Lucha Underground!

SonofHavocDagalThe show kicked off with Son of Havoc facing off against Daga, with SOH’s foray back into singles competition being highlighted. We last saw Daga win a four way match that included Kobra Moon, with the slithery seductress actually allowing him to win. As we all figured, Kobra Moon made her way to the temple and attempted to help Daga pick up another win, but Son of Havoc ended up winning. After the match, Kobra Moon made her advances towards Daga, but he resisted her completely. One of two things will happen:  either Daga and Kobra Moon will end up together, or Kobra Moon will find another suitor and have him destroy Daga; portraying her as a scorned and vengeful woman.

LuchaTagMatchMeanwhile, the former Trios Champions–Rey Mysterio, Prince Puma, and Dragon Azteca Jr–with the green masked warrior wanting to fight Matanza to avenge his father. Rey needed his partner to focus on regaining the titles, and their rematch took place right after the segment. The defending champions, Jack Evans, Johnny Mundo, and PJ Black constantly cheated, with the last straw coming after they got away with a low blow. An angry Prince Puma later delivered a low blow of his own to Johnny Mundo, right in front of the official. As a result, the challengers were DQ’ed, but Puma really didn’t seem to care. He even delivered a superkick to Taya’s head; it was originally aimed at Mundo.

Dragon Azteca Jr still had Matanza on his mind, and he confronted Black Lotus (who we haven’t seen in months) over the fact that she could protect the man who killed his father and Lotus’ parents. However, Lotus told Junior that Dragon Azteca Sr. killed her parents (remember, Cueto told her that tale in the Season 1 Finale), which angered Junior, who refused to believe it. Speaking of Matanza, he defeated Cage to hold on to his Lucha Underground Championship in a terrific match. Cage cashed in the Gift of the Gods Championship that he won from Chavo Guerrero last week, which means that the process of forming the championship starts all over again. One has to wonder what’s next for Cage after his loss to Matanza.

That’s the Lucha Lowdown for this week! Until next week!
