NFL Report Card: Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Our NFL report card for the 2015-2016 season will be assigning a letter grade to each of the 32 teams and offering an explanation why that grade was chosen. After the evaluation, we will point out one specific area the team will need to address this off-season. Want some extra credit? Comment down below what grade YOU would give the team, and tell me on Twitter (@FantasyFlurry) your thoughts on the team’s report card for that day!

NFL: Tampa Bay Buccaneers at St. Louis Rams

Tampa Bay improved as a team this year and finished with a 6-10 record. Rookie quarterback Jameis Winston developed a lot throughout the season, but there is still a long way to go for him to be the kind of quarterback the Bucs drafted him to be. Injuries on the offense hurt the team’s passing attack, but the two running backs played well and made this team dangerous. Doug Martin had a bounce-back year where he was looking to get paid, and he earned his money. He finished second in the league in rushing yards with 1,402, and he added 271 receiving yards with five total touchdowns as well. Charles Sims offered a change-of-pace that allowed him to gain 1,090 total yards from scrimmage.

Gerald McCoy led the defensive line while Lavonte David did what he could with the linebackers. The pass rush showed strength, and this group has a toughness on the field that Tampa Bay can really build upon. The obvious weakness on this side of the ball was the secondary, and that has to be the biggest coaching focus this off-season.

Final Grade: C

Biggest Team Needs?

The Bucs did a good job at addressing big team needs in the draft (including the highly controversial pick of a kicker in the third round), but they still have some needs that need to be met. Offensively, they need help at tackle, and they could use a slot receiver. They need starting talent in both positions, but given team history, some depth-level players are still going to be needed as well. The biggest weakness for them on defense is still the secondary, even though they used their first round pick on CB Vernon Hargreaves III. They mostly need help at the safeties now, but some depth at corner will still be a need.
