Bears LB Leonard Floyd is Constantly Reminded to Eat

LeonardFloyd50-50Once Ezekiel Elliott went to the Cowboys at four, the Bears knew what the New York Giants had as plan B. A fast, aggressive, matured OLB from Georgia University, Leonard Floyd.  The Chicago Bears were not going to let anyone in the way of their guy, someone who many knew would get his name called at 11. But 11 would not be soon enough, so the Bears traded the 11th pick and a 4th round pick to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to climb one spot over the NY Giants at 9.

With rookie mini camp wrapped up at Halas Hall, Leonard Floyd has been nothing short of what is expected of him. He has been in the playbook, working out, and talking with his coaches.  With many linebackers in the Bears system, Floyd continues to fight and claw (a Bear reference) to get on the field on Sunday’s.

The main concern among NFL scouts heading into draft night was Floyd’s frame. Currently listed at 220 lb, Floyd is going to have to put on some more weight to play in the NFL. His IQ, strength and athleticism are all there, but adding a few more pounds will only help his cause.

LeonardFloydEatingWhen recently talking with CSN Chicago, Floyd has a series of alarms on his phone to remind him to eat every few hours.  “I’ve got prompts set up on my phone of times in the day that I’m supposed to eat, making sure I eat at those time when I get the alarm.”  And the even better part of this, he can eat whatever he wants as long as he eats a lot of it.

Bears defesive coordinator Vic Fangio, who has already spoken highly of the Georgia product, says he is not as concerned about Leonard Floyd’s weight heading into the season.  “He’s going to weigh somewhere between 230 and 235. That’s just what he’s going to weigh. We knew that before we drafted him. So it’s not an issue. We knew that and that’s a fact and that’s what he is.”FloydSideProfile

Floyd will be a dominate player on this Chicago defense. Along with Willie Young, Pernell McPhee and now Danny Trevathan, the Bears are going to intimidate offenses on Sunday’s. With a lot of new faces, this defense is still taking shape and have very much to learn. But it is now a lot easier that Ryan Pace made sure he would do everything and anything to get the guy he wanted.
