Royally Yours: Week in Review

The Royals won both of their series last week. They had an overall record of 4-2, which is the best record since the third week of the season. Next week they will face the Twins in Minnesota and the White Sox at home. The Royals swept their series against the Twins earlier in the season and won their series against the White Sox last weekend.

The Royals offense was better last week but one player still struggling is Kendrys Morales. He has a .190 average this season and a .151 average in May. He currently has the worst batting average on the team. The Royals eventually need an increase in production from their designated hitter.

Mike Moustakas returned from the disabled list Saturday. Despite missing two weeks with a fractured thumb he has the second most home runs on the team with seven. His power will be a nice addition to the Royals lineup. The Royals are currently ranked 26th in the MLB with 38 total home runs.

WhitMerrifieldThe Royals called up Whit Merrifield from AAA on Wednesday. Merrifield adds versatility to the Royals defense. He can play any position in the outfield and infield, which will be valuable to the Royals if any key players get injured. He has already proven his versatility in his first three starts playing left field and second base.

The Royals are currently 3.5 games out of first in the American League Central. They are in third place behind the White Sox and Indians. The Royals will have an opportunity to move up in the standings this week when they play the White Sox and Twins. Both teams are struggling and the Royals could get some valuable wins. The games this week could be important in the division race at the end of the season.
