The Lucha Lowdown

Welcome to the latest edition of The Lucha Lowdown, which recaps the latest episode of Lucha Underground!

Lorenzo-Lamas-Lucha-UndergroundAfter a recap that detailed storylines from various episodes, the show opened with a meeting between Dario Cueto and Councilman Delgado (played by Lorenzo Lamas), which included a payoff from Cueto. Delgado stated that his superior will be pleased, and that he’ll be at the temple soon. The plot thickens!

We now head to the temple for the first match of the evening, Joey Ryan and The Crew facing each other in a three way match for one of the Gift of the Gods Medallions. The trio had formed an unlikely team in the Trios Championship Tournament, and competed in the championship final, but it was every man for themselves in this match, and in the end, Joey Ryan was the man, sneaking in a victory and capturing one of the Medallions. Joey joins Aerostar, Texano, Sexy Star, Cage, and Sinestro de la Muerte in the medallion group.Joey-Ryan-Lucha-Underground-featured-640x370

After a segment with Catrina and Mil Muertes, which revealed that Catrina is nearly two centuries old (197 years to be exact), the first of two championship matches takes place, a Trios Championship rematch. With Angélico still out, Johnny Mundo was drafted by Cueto to be Ivelisse and Son of Havoc’s partner against Rey Mysterio, Dragon Azteca Jr, and Prince Puma. Very strange choice, but I get to see Taya, so I’m good. As expected, though, the fractured partnership didn’t lead to victory, but I also got to see Taya and Ivelisse confront each other; another bonus.

GraverConsequencesLUFinally, the Graver Consequences main event; even more brutal than the first encounter between Mil Muertes and Matanza. It even involved Catrina being taken out and placed inside one of the coffins! In the end, Matanza defeated Mil Muertes in his own game, by placing the “Man of 1000 Deaths” inside one of the coffins. As for Catrina, Dario Cueto opened the coffin she was in, only to see she has disappeared. Meanwhile, the show ended with Delgado conversing with his boss, and all we saw of him was a cigar. The plot continues to thicken!

MelissaSantosLUI have to mention Melissa Santos, the lovely ring announcer for Lucha Underground. Since WrestleMania, it has been reported that WWE has had interest in acquiring Melissa, and a recent article went into detail regarding WWE’s plan for Melissa. According to what I read, WWE wants to pair Melissa with Alberto Del Rio (a former LU talent) and have her serve as his personal ring announcer. It would be a villainous role for Melissa, and I’ve believed for weeks that if given the chance, Melissa could shine as a villainous manager on LU. Seeing as how she’s tied to LU, we may not see Melissa jump ship to WWE. She will get some future exposure soon, as she is announced to participate on the next season of Celebrity Apprentice.

That is the Lucha Lowdown! Hopefully next week will see Cage go after Chavo Guerrero after he stole Cage’s Medallion. Until then!
