Mayweather returning for a 50th fight?

Floyd-Mayweather-championsSaturday during an interview with Jim Gray on showtime, Mayweather openly hinted at a likely return to the ring. Mayweather went on to say,”Everyone is asking me, ‘Is Floyd Mayweather coming back? “Right now, I’m happy being on (the promotional) side, but I’ve been talking with CBS and Showtime, and you just never know. But right now, I’m just happy on this side.”

“As of right now, some crazy numbers have been thrown my way — upwards, of course, of nine figures. But I’m truly blessed beyond belief, and I really don’t know what we’re going to do. But right now, I’m really happy being on this side helping fighters.” said a noncommittal Mayweather.

Another big reason people feel like Mayweather will return to the ring is because his company Mayweather Promotions filed trademark applications for “TBE 50″ and ” TMT 50″. That showed big indication that Mayweather wants to pursue another big payday and to pursue becoming 50-0 which has never been done before.MayweatherPunchingBag

If Mayweather wants to make 9 figures like he said in the Showtime interview with Jim Gray, then he will have to fight Canelo Alverez or fight Manny Pacquiao because those are the only two fighters who are main stream enough to produce great paper view numbers. According to Oscar De La Hoya he believes Canelo Alverez has a 70% chance to beat Mayweather if they fight again, even though most of the boxing world believes Mayweather will still be the favorite to win. Gennady Golovkin is also another fighter people want to see Mayweather fight, but it is highly unlikely because Mayweather is not willing to move up to middleweight.

Could his opponent be Conor McGregor?conorMcgregor

Floyd went mad after Conor said he would crush him and knock him out in 30 seconds, he’s obsessed with making Conor eat his words. But, Floyd is calling the shots here and he also wants McGregor to know that. It’s strictly boxing and Conor will have to lose roughly 25lbs.

Supposedly, the fight was agreed in principle on May 2, but Floyd wouldn’t reveal the identity of his opponent until last night when he told friends he’ll be fighting Conor. According to the Sun’s James Beal and Matt Heath-Smith, the two parties have been negotiating for a while and agreed to the fight earlier this month but still need to settle the purse and paperwork. Per the same report Friday, Mayweather is set to earn somewhere around $144.8 million for the mega fight while McGregor will have to settle for just over $10 million.

But, there is one source that is saying the rumors of a Mayweather vs MacGregor are just that, rumors. “It’s not true; it’s just a tabloid story,” UFC President Dana White told Yahoo Sports’ Kevin Iole. “And as far as I knew, Floyd is retired and he’s been on a world-wide vacation and hasn’t even been thinking of fighting.”

Floyd “Money” Mayweather said he’s looking for a bout worth “nine figures,” and McGregor, who is one of the biggest stars in combat sports today, would likely be an opponent who could make such a megafight happen.
